Roni Bornstein

Roni Bornstein (born August 4, 1952) is an Israeli former journalist and university lecturer, who works today as an entrepreneur and businessman. He is the founder, CEO and president of Rakuto Kasei, Israel since 1990.

Early life and education

Roni Bornstein was born in Haifa to Isaac and Lilly Bornstein, Holocaust survivors from Poland and Hungary. His father was a descendent of renowned Rabbi Abraham Bornstein (often spelled Avrohom Bornsztain), the founder of the Sochatchover Hasidic dynasty. After finishing his high school in Haifa, Bornstein served in a paratrooper unit, eventually earning the rank of officer (under Ariel Sharon, then high-ranking army general, later to become Israel’s defense and prime minister, respectively). Bornstein later received his BA from the Hebrew University in General History and International Relations (cum laude). He went on directly to PhD studies at Tel Aviv University.

Career

In the 1980s, Roni Bornstein was correspondent for a few Hebrew print publications, as well as for Galei -Zahal (IDF Army Radio). In 1990, he founded Rakuto Kasei (Israel), a joint venture with the Japanese multinational chemicals company of the same name. He is currently the president and CEO of the company till date.

Roni Bornstein has served as the Chairman of the Israel Japan chamber of commerce and Friendship Society between the years 1998-2004 and was reelected to the same post in September 2009 – 2016 when he became lifetime honorary president of the organization.

Awards

In 2015, Bornstein was awarded the Order of the Rising Sun by the Emperor of Japan and Japan's Prime Minister.

Personal life

Bornstein is married to Lilach Naishtat-Bornstein, and a father of three adult sons. The couple lives in Herzliyah.
