Rob was raised in the small town of Whickham, in Tyne & Wear, and would attend Whickham School until 2006. He left with 10 GCSE'S and 3 A-Levels in English Language, English Literature and Geography. From an early age, Rob wanted to be a Journalist, and began writing for the school newspaper, until he left to go to University in Sunderland, to study Journalism. It is there that sparked his interest in radio, after doing modules in radio presenting, he got involved with the University's own student station, Utopia FM.

Utopia FM

The show was showcasing current Hip Hop music, and it was not long before he had guests on the show, including the rapper and TV personality, Coolio, who would also appear as a guest 2 years later whilst touring the UK following his Celebrity Big Brother stint.

Rob was then given a weeknight slot (9-11pm) and also featured InterViews with stars such as DJ Ironik, Asher Roth and 90's kids TV presenter, Dave Benson Phillips after he performed at the student's union bar.

Rob DJ'd at a live event in Sunderland's Blu Bambu nighclub, called Utopia Live. He also became Head Of Production for the station, which included making the jingles, idents and imaging for Utopia, before becoming senior management for the station's final ever RSL in May 2009.

After graduating with a degree in BA (hons) Journalism in the summer of 2009, Rob vowed to continue working for the station that sparked his interest in radio broadcasting, as it prepared to become a fulltime community station for Sunderland.
