Rob Black (bassist)
Rob Black was an American bassist, best known for replacing Steppenwolf's original bassist Rushton Moreve when the latter refused to fly to California for a weekend television appearance. Black was called in as an emergency replacement by his friend, Steppenwolf guitarist Michael Monarch. He played several shows with the band, but, according to Monarch, he was soon replaced by Nick St. Nicholas, who had previously played with most of his new bandmates in The Sparrow:
- After Rushton left we tried a bass player named Rob Black, a friend of mine from L.A. We needed someone in a hurry, so he learned the songs and filled in for a gig or two, but that didn't work out. Someone in the band suggested Nick, partly because we already knew him and partly because some of us thought he might add something different to the band (like his whistle collection and bird calls that he used on the beginning of "The Pusher" back in the Sparrow days).
