René Salusitano Ávila Valdéz

René Salusitano Ávila Valdéz (1926 in [[Havana, Cuba - 1990 in Havana, Cuba) was a Cuban artist.

He studied painting in Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes "San Alejandro", Havana, during 1948. Since 1962 until 1988 he designed cinematographic credits. He was also animation's director of the Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Industry (ICAIC). In 1976 he was juror in Intergrafik’76, Berlín, R.D.A.

In 1967 he exhibited "Ávila: óleos". Lyceum, Havana. In 1971 "René Ávila. Dibujos/Jay Matamoros". Pinturas. Galería Prismat. Unión de Pintores Polacos, Cracovia, Poland, and between 1988-1989, "Exposición de Dibujos", (traveling exhibition). Czechoslovakia.

Collectives Exhibitions

He was a part of many collective exhibitions: in 1954 "Plástica cubana contemporánea. Homenaje a José Martí", Lyceum, Havana. In 1968 "Pittura Cubana Oggi". Instituto Italo Latinoamericano, Piazza Marconi, Rome, Italy and in 1974, 2nd. International Biennale of Painting Kosice. The East Slovak Gallery, Kosice, Checoslovaquia. In 1987 he was part of the "Intergrafik'87. 8va Internationale Triennale Engagierter Grafik" in Der Deutschen Demokratischen Republik. Ausstellungszentrum am Berliner Fernsehturm, Berlín, R.D.A.

Awards

He had obtained various awards, as example can be mentioned Prize ex aqueo and Medal of the state Gallery of Kosice in 1974. 2nd. International Biennale of Painting Kosice, The East Slovak Gallery, Kosice, Checosloaquia.
