Randy Myers (golf trainer)

Randy Myers, a prominent golf fitness instructor, has been fundamental in establishing a connection between physical fitness and the golf swing. Over the last twenty years, he has pioneered the study of biomechanics, exercise physiology, core strengthening, and performance enhancement as they are related to golf.

Education

In May 1992, Myers graduated from Pennsylvania State University with a Masters degree in Leisure Studies. There, he wrote a thesis entitled “A Strength Training and Flexibility Program for Recreational Golfers,” which created a new precedent for golf exercise conditioning.

Professional Career

Randy Myers has developed numerous sport specific training programs for individuals interested in the game during his tenure at PGA National Resort & Spa. He served as Director of Fitness and Personal Training there from 1992 to June 2005 and helped the resort earn many awards, such as “Best Resort Fitness Center.” In addition, PGA National’s Health and Racquet Club received two “Nova 7” awards, which recognized the facility’s design and exercise programs.

Upon stepping down from his job PGA National Resort & Spa, Randy Myers became Director of Fitness for Sea Island Resorts, a position he currently holds. One of his responsibilities at Sea Island, named the “top golf resort” in North America by Golf Digest Magazine, is contributing to The Golf Learning Center, where Myers works with colleagues to enhance performance on the course by focusing on physical and mental fitness.

According to Myers, “‘Players cannot expect to overcome golf’s many challenges without peak physical fitness and mental focus.’” In his work at The Golf Learning Center, Myers concentrates on flexibility as an integral component of injury prevention, and therefore, creates unique stretching routines for guests to use during their stay at the resort and to continue upon returning home. Because Myers has a strong belief that stretching can truly improve a player’s ability to perform on the course, he devised The Randy Myers Golf Stretching Pole®, the only such training aid approved by the United States Golf Association for players to carry in their golf bags. Beyond the stretching plan, Myers provides a fitness program designed to improve the player’s game. He creates this program based on his “fitness handicap,” a form of assessment Myers himself developed to judge the individual’s fitness in terms of the physical necessities and desires for the sport.

Professional Clients

Randy Myers has worked with many touring professionals during his career, including players on the PGA Tour, LPGA Tour, and Champions Tour. Members of the PGA Tour who are clients include Davis Love III, Lucas Glover, Jonathon Byrd, Brandt Snedeker, Charles Howell III, Charles Warren, Brian Bateman, and Johnson Wagner.

College Programs

Myers has worked with more than a dozen college golf programs.

Additional responsibilities, awards, and accomplishments

In addition to the position he holds at Sea Island, Myers is a founding member of the Titleist Performance Institute and a professional advisor for Golf Digest Magazine.

Myers also serves as an educator for the PGA of America, a fitness consultant for the Golden Bear Tour, and a staff writer for Fore Florida. He has written numerous fitness articles which have been published in magazines, for example Sports Illustrated Magazine, Golf for Women, Men’s Health, Elle, Teen Magazine, and Fitness Magazine.

Randy Myers has received recognition for making headway in integrating physical fitness into the game of golf through his golf-specific fitness programs. He was named “Golf’s Top Fitness Trainer” by Golf Digest Magazine in May 1999.
