Development
Rakkhosh (transl. Monster) is the second feature film directed by Mehedi Hasan Hridoy, following his 2025 debut Borbaad. Produced by Azim Harun and Shahreen Akter Sumi under the banner of Real Energy Production, the film is a high-octane thriller described as a "wild love story" that blends romance with intense family drama and crime elements. The first-look teaser, released at the BFDC in December 2025, featured a violent aesthetic—Siam Ahmed standing over a blood-filled bathtub with a tiger—indicating a significantly darker tone than the director's previous work.
Casting
Initially, rumors suggested that the project was offered to Shakib Khan. However, Khan reportedly declined three separate scripts presented by Hridoy, leading to the selection of Siam Ahmed for the titular role. Ahmed underwent nine months of physical preparation to portray the character's violent transformation. In opposite of Siam, Sabila Nur was initially approached for the female lead But due to her involvement in another Eid-ul-Fitr film Bonolota Express, Kolkata-based actress Susmita Chatterjee was re-cast as the female lead, making her Dhallywood debut.
The supporting cast includes veteran actors Ali Raj, Shataf Figure, Sujata Azim, Masud Mohiuddin, and Nazneen Nahar Chumki. In January 2026, Sadnima Binte Noman joined the cast in a significant role, while director Abrar Athar was cast in his acting debut. Polish-Bollywood actress Natalia Janoszek makes a special appearance in an item song.
Filming
Principal photography began in December 2025 at the BFDC in Dhaka. While a large portion was originally planned for Hyderabad and Kolkata, the production shifted to Sri Lanka in January 2026 due to difficulties in obtaining Indian visas for the 28-member crew. An 18-day uninterrupted schedule was completed in Sri Lanka, covering major action and romantic sequences, including a special dance number featuring Polish actress Natalia Janoszek. Additional filming took place in Malaysia. Principal photography wrapped up in early February.
Post-production
Post-production for Rakkhosh was primarily carried out in studios across Dhaka and Kolkata, with a heavy emphasis on visual effects (VFX) and sound design to maintain the film's "wild" and "gritty" tone. The film's editing was handled by Amit Pal and Subhajit Singha in Kolkata, who aimed to blend the high-speed action sequences with the film’s underlying family drama.
Soundtrack
The film's soundtrack and original score are composed by Arafat Mohsin Nidhi, known for his work on the director's previous project, Borbaad. The musical direction was designed to complement the film's intense action-thriller narrative, featuring a mix of romantic duets and high-energy dance numbers.
The lead single, "Shuddhator Prem" (), was released on 16 March 2026, on the official YouTube channel of Real Energy Production. The song is a romantic duet performed by Imran Mahmudul and Konal, with lyrics written by Tanmoy Parvez and music composed by Arafat Mohsin Nidhi. The music video, which showcases the romantic chemistry between Siam Ahmed and Susmita Chatterjee, was filmed in various scenic locations across Sri Lanka.
A major promotional highlight of the soundtrack is an item song featuring Polish actress Natalia Janoszek in her Dhallywood debut. The song was produced with an international standard, choreographed by Bollywood's Adil Sheikh, and recorded in Mumbai. The track features vocals by G.M. Ashraf and Dola, with music also composed by G.M. Ashraf.
Marketing
The marketing campaign for Rakkhosh focused on the radical physical transformation of lead actor Siam Ahmed. The first-look poster and teaser were unveiled in December 2025, featuring Ahmed in a blood-stained bathtub alongside a tiger, which quickly went viral on social media.
The first poster for the film was released on March 13, 2026. The official trailer was released later that midnight, accompanied by the tagline "Rakkhosh comes at midnight... and that's when the strikes begin." The trailer gained significant traction for its dark visual style and a brief appearance by the character 'Jillu' from the film Borbaad, leading to speculation of a shared cinematic universe.
Promotion was further bolstered by the announcement of a special item song featuring Polish-Bollywood actress Natalia Janoszek. Janoszek’s involvement was used as a key promotional tool to generate international interest and appeal to a broader audience base beyond Bangladesh.
Release
In March 2026, the film was submitted to the Bangladesh Film Certification Board (BFCB). After an official screening, the board granted Rakkhosh an "Adults Only" (18+) rating due to its intense violence and adult themes. The film is scheduled for a theatrical release during the Eid-ul-Fitr festival in 2026, competing with other major titles like Shakib Khan's Prince, Afran Nisho's Domm and Sariful Razz's Bonolota Express. This rating made Rakkhosh one of the few high-profile Dhallywood releases of the year to be restricted to adult audiences, a move that director Hridoy stated was necessary to preserve the "raw and uncompromised" nature of the story.
The film relesed in 21 March 2026, as the occasion of Eid-al-Fitr.
