Quezon City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office
The Quezon City Disaster Risk Reduction & Management Office (QCDRRMC), formerly known as the Quezon City Disaster Coordinating Council (QCDCC), is a working group of various government, non-government, civil sector and private sector organizations within Quezon City. It is administered by the Office of the City Mayor. The QCDRRMO is responsible for ensuring the protection and welfare of the people during disasters or emergencies.
The QCDRRMO mirrors the organizational structure of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council and utilizes the UN Cluster Approach in disaster management.
History
On October 2010, one year after the "Ondoy Disaster", Mayor Herbert Bautista provided the city council with the city's policy on Disaster Risk Reduction and Management.
Quezon City Mayor, Herbert Bautista signed EO Nr. 05-S2013, activating the Quezon City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office on July 15, 2013 pursuant to the provisions of Republic Act Nr. 10121 (National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Act).
Prof. Noel L. Lansang PhD, Special Operations Office V of the Department Of Public Order and Safety was installed as its first director.
The newly created QCDRRMO will be housed in a two storey building inside the Quezon City Hall Complex, facing Kalayaan Avenue.
Creation of this department was one of the undertakings of the local government of Quezon City administering and preventing further lost of life and damage to properties in the event of natural or man-made disasters.
On October of the same year, the Earthquakes and Megacities Initiative (EMI) of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), submitted its 116 page Disaster Management plan to the Quezon City Government.
