Qatar Building Company (QBC) is headquartered in Doha, Qatar, and is a privately owned "Grade A" enterprise of civil engineering, materials production and heavy equipment trading that serves government agencies, international contractors, gas majors, and private developers.
History
Qatar Building Company (QBC) began as a contractor in 1971, established by Mohamed Tayyeb H.B. Since then, QBC has been a part of various infrastructure projects, including special construction, buildings, pipeline and tanks, drainage networks, water networks and reservoirs, earthworks, road/highway/airfield pavement, related traffic safety works, micro-tunneling, Power Cable projects and horizontal directional drilling. QBC has also developed some of Qatar's largest infrastructure projects including development of Airport Road, the Doha Expressway/D-Ring Interchange, the New Doha International Airport, Energy City, Cultural City (Katara), Education City (Qatar Foundation) and Lusail City. Headquartered in Doha, Qatar, the company maintains “Grade A” classifications in each contracting category of the Qatar Central Tenders Committee (CTC).
Currently, QBC represents approximately 5,000 employees.
Civil Contracting Division
QBC's Civil Contracting Division deals with buildings, infrastructure projects, roads/airfields, highways, drainage projects, water projects, Earth projects, power cable projects, horizontal directional drilling (HDD), micro-tunnelling works.
Notable projects
Lusail micro tunneling
The Lusail Development Sewage Treatment Works stands out for QBC, as it was awarded Construction Weekly's 2011 Infrastructure Project of the Year. This project required tunneling works directly under the open water of an existing canal located amid residential and commercial towers. The project succeeded in zero loss time incidents (LTIs) throughout the almost 300,000 man hours. This project was Qatar's first use of Micro-Tunneling under open water. This project was sub-contracted by Gulf Tunneling.
Doha Expressway Package 4
The ERC 1400D20 Doha Expressway D-Ring Road Interchange was built in 2006 for Public Works Authority ("ASHGHAL"). It is a 5 Kilometer, 3 -Lane Dual Expressway, with a three level interchange, bridge and underpass structure. It also has a 2.5 Kilometer pavement, lighting and micro-tunnelling of 2,000 mm dia., and is categorised under intelligent transportation systems.
Salata Corniche Park
The Salata Corniche Park was built in 1988 for Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Agriculture.
GTC 177
GTC 177 is one of QBC's major water projects. It is a Headworks Construction at Airport, Old Salwa, Doha SW & Messaieed built for General Electricity & Water Co. (KAHRAMAA).
Msheireb Downtown Doha, Phase 1B
QBC is executing Phase 1B of the iconic Msheireb Downtown Doha in a joint venture with UK-based Carillion. The project consists of 15 buildings, including hotels, commercial and residential constructions, parking structures, hard and soft landscapes and complete roads and utilities. Consisting of three underground floors, QBC’s major scope includes all substructure development.

Production Division
Readymix plants
As one of the first readymix companies established in Qatar, QBC Readymix capacities exceed 60,000 m3 per month with over 100 transportation, delivery and raw material vehicles available.
Asphalt plants
QBC Asphalt Plants are each designed to produce asphalt up to airfield quality (“superpave”). A total of four plants reach 8,500 tons per day. Asphalt fleet of trucks deliver 700 tons per trip.
Concrete products
All precast items are approved by the Ministry of Environment, in accordance with Qatar Construction Specifications (QCS). Pre-cast production capacities exceed 2,210 m3 per month. With the latest manufacturing technologies and an extensive range of mix designs, QBC manufactures: blocks and foundation, car/wheel stoppers, catch pit chambers / link boxes, concrete bollards, gully pots and cover slabs, joint bay culverts, manholes, manhole, cover slabs, marker posts, New Jersey barriers, paving slabs, pipes, soakways / soakway rings, spacers and pipe support, stairs, trenches, valve chambers and vehicle barrier units.
Steel engineering workshop
QBC yard space allows vast storage. Equipment includes precision plasma cutters and various-sized radius machines. QBC Steel Fabrication accommodates mold and made-to-measure steel for all projects and complexities. OBC SEW produces over 1,500 steel units per month.
Crushers
QBC Crusher produces and supplies coarse and fine aggregates, gravel materials, sub-base materials and bedding materials, as required for projects. QBC Crusher production capacities exceed 1,000 tons/day.
Trading Division
QBC Trading provides the construction equipment, spare parts and after-sales service from brands around the world. HED includes 3 warehouses of spare parts, a 24-hour hotline and mobile service centers.
Heavy equipment
Back hoes, buckets, compactors, concrete mixers, cranes, excavators, forklifts, generators, rock breakers, skid loaders, tyres and wheel loaders.
Medium-light equipment
Compactors, concrete asphalt cutters, pumps, rollers, saw cutters, self-loading concrete mixers, skid loaders, tires and vibrators.
Power generation
Generators, high pressure cleaners and tower lights.
Attachments
Breakers, buckets, clamp shells, demolition attachment, long-reach booms, after-sales and spare parts.
All after-sales technicians 3rd-party accredited with at least three years of experience and supplier-approved certifications.
