Prashant Kadam

Prashant Kadam is a documentary filmmaker, social-cultural anthropologist and cultural critic.

He is pursuing his second Master's Degree in Cinema and Media Studies in Canada and specializing in Hindi/Indian Cinema.

It can be argued that until he made the film The Bioscopewallah (2007), the Bioscope did not find much interest in popular culture in India and overseas. However after his film a number of other films like Prakash Travelling Cinema, Salim Baba, and Road, Movie have aspects of bioscope mentioned in it.

Even an academic journal titled Bioscope was recently (2010) started by Sage Publications. Interestingly all these events happened after his film was screened in Seattle, Mumbai and various international cities.

A number of Indian Television advertisements also depict a Bioscope, interestingly most ads came to light post 2007.

The Bioscopewallah, has so far screened at various cities, especially Universities and Film Studies scholars have found it of interest. Screened at, Carlton University, Ottawa; University of Michigan; University of Pittsburgh; Jadavpur University, Calcutta; York University, Toronto.

For personal reasons Prashant did not send the film to any film-festivals. Seattle film festival invited his film for the World Premiere. Noted filmmaker Anand Patwardhan suggested him to send The Bioscopewallah for Mumbai International Film Festival which he did, it was selected and screened to a packed house.

After completing the shooting of The Bioscopewallah, Prashant had almost given up hopes of making the film, it was his wife who conceptualized it.
