Pipeline Radio is an Radio station based out of Seaham, England,& Nijmegen,Holland

History

Pipeline Radio started life as a Pirate Radio station in south east London in the mid 1990s, the station boasts many great names that have gone onto other things like Ben Foster, Carl Hughes, Andy Collins, Jonathan Dean, Tom Mackenzie:)The station was started with the aim of providing something that had not been there before, today there are many stations trying to copy Pipeline's style. Pipeline in the late 1990s could be seen as a offshoot to Caroline 558 of the 1980s, the format was divised by Steve Cisco & Tom Mackenzie in the Rose Of Kent Pub in New Cross.

Pirate Days

It started in on September 29th 1995 from a house in New Cross London, it commenced transmissions on 102.8FM then moved to 102.9 FM and a rename to Tower FM. The station in December of 1995 reverted back to Pipeline Radio.

The station has been known under some other names like Sandy International Radio on 846Khz and Radio Josephine 801Khz, the very best of the stations days was in the late 1990s after Steve Cisco Joined. The late 1990s would see some FACES which are still here today names like, Dave Gallagher, Steve Cisco, Tom Mackenzie, Chris Mitchell and Peter Andrews. The station in its time on medium wave was on some channels 1350khz being the very best, 990Khz also seemed to be a great part of the stations past. The Pub will always be in folk law of Pipeline Radio, because many a meeting was held there.

Legal

The station went legal in 2000 and onto the internet thanks to Chris Philips, one of the station's long serving presenters with Tom Mackenzie and Jodie Ex RFL!

The station also has been heard on Sky Digital and Shortwave via hired in transmitters, at this time the new program director came into the station - Titus Jennings. Titus has brought something very different to Pipeline, the station keeps on growing with more than 150,000 listeners a month.

Pipeline aims to keep building their alternative sound to be bigger and better in the long run, The music format jingles and sound are pumping and better than ever before. Pipeline Remains on the air via the net 24hrs a day still being the very alternative that Scandinavian Media Ltd the owners want.

Pipeline is on the radio moving from 1386 to Short-wave in the near future, the station continues to grow in the right direction. If it was not for people like Perttu Mattila the station would not be around, he is a great friend of Tom Mackenzie's.

Ken David and Charlie Davy have since parted with the station in April 2006, this was down to format changes and other reasons.

In May of 2006 it was decided that Pipeline should close, with Tom Mackenzie wanting a change in direction. Nuclear Energy is one of the owners hobbies and for what it has done to the world, the plan is to work in Belarus and you never know a Radio station may come again. This station will be in a new disguise, new name, new town, and new presenters, rumours already doing the rounds link Steve Cisco, Mike Cullen and a few others to come back. If this is so we will see" but the legend of Pipeline Radio may comeback, but now it's time to rest again. Peter Andrews is still heard on small internet radio station, Raiders Broadcast. Mike Cullen is heard on Cityvibe Mix and others, Titus Jennings is working hard on radio and non-radio projects - including writing music reviews - and is always happy to hear from anyone who might have a serious broadcasting proposal to put to him! From October 2006 Titus Jennings has left his position of programme director for Pipeline Radio, the position of programme director has been made famous in Pipeline Radio with Steve Cisco the first to hold it. The position has now been scrapped with a new position being called (Future Manager) taking over this is held by now Jonathan Dean.

New Project Pipeline Holland

A new project is in the air on Pipeline Radio, The project aims to work in the charity area. At time of writing Pipeline have signed a 10 week contrat for 945Khz Latvia, this is due to start sometime soon with some expresenters returning. Andy Collins is due to open the station with Jonathan Dean on the 2nd part of the hour, Tom Mackenzie hopes to return with old on air partner Steve Cisco.

Presenters past and present

Some of the presenters to start on the station were Noel Thomas, Mark Anderson, Chris Macdonald, Tony Jacob, (Tony Jacobs was murdered on a train in 1999, in America).

In the late pirate days other presenters were heard such as Steve West, John Davis, Andy Michaels, Mark James, Tommy Matthews, Diane Turner, Dave Fuller, Henry Mac.

Today the presenters who remain are Titus Jennings, Steve Bilsbrough, Steve Cisco, Chris Mitchell, Jodie, Charlie Davy, Tom Mackenzie, Simon Redmond, Barry Jones, Andy lewis, Mike Cullen, Larry Vidal, Chris Philips, Richard Fisher, Chris Jensen, Phil Deacon, Of this the station is now closed for the time being.
