Founder

Russian native Sergei Gorloff studied software development in college but when he moved to the United States in 1991 he entered the convenience store sector (his first position was working as a gas station attendant). In 1994 he received his first franchise store, a Sunoco APlus in Pittsburgh. He now owns and operates more than 20 under Sunoco, BP and Shell brands. He incorporated Petrosoft in 2003 to market the management software solution he created to monitor inventory data over the internet in his own stores.

Company History

Petrosoft grew out of a business dilemma. In 1998 Gorloff owned 18 convenience stores in five states, some hundreds of miles apart. He found that existing inventory and pricing software were not designed to operate in stores so far apart. He led a team of software engineers to create inventory management software that operated over the Internet so that it could be easily accessed remotely and in real time.

"Everyone talks about the cloud now, but in 1998, there was no such thing," Gorloff said. "I figured the best way to create the software was through the Internet." In the 2000s, Gorloff developed a Web-based inventory management software to the point that he decided to market it through Petrosoft. The company later developed software to manage fuel distribution for jobbers, designed an online app to connect cash register data to QuickBooks, and entered into certified partnerships with major players in the industry. Its software programs use proprietary Petrosoft algorithms, are cloud-based and SaaS-based. All are sold commercially:
