Pekka Neittaanmäki
Pekka Neittaanmäki (born April 14, 1951) is a Finnish scientist. He is the Dean of the Faculty of Information Technology in University of Jyväskylä. Neittaanmäki holds a Ph.D. in mathematics from University of Jyväskylä. He has been a Professor in Information Technology, Numerical Analysis and Its Applications since 1988.
Neittaanmäki has supervised 60 Ph.D theses by 2011.
Education
Pekka Neittaanmäki graduated from Saarijärvi High School in 1970. He received Master in Science (M.Sc.) degree in 1973, Ph.Lic. in 1976 and finally Ph.D. in 1978.
Career
In the beginning of his career Neittaanmäki had many brief fellowship visits to several universities in Europe, United States and Japan. For instance, he was a visiting researcher in the University of Bonn (1978–1979) and a visiting professor in the University of Hamburg (spring 1986).
After some years as an Associate Professor first in the Lappeenranta University of Technology (1982–1985) and later in the University of Jyväskylä (1986–1988), Neittaanmäki was appointed Professor in Information Technology, Numerical Analysis and Its Applications at the University of Jyväskylä in 1988.
Pekka Neittaanmäki was the Vice Rector of the University of Jyväskylä from 1993 to 2000. He acted as the Director of the Agora Center in 2000-2009. Since 2010 he has been the Dean of the Faculty of Information Technology in University of Jyväskylä.
Neittaanmäki has been a Visiting Professor in Tokyo Institute of Technology, Japan, since 2008 and an Adjoint Professor in the University of Houston, USA, since 2000.
Neittaanmäki is a member of several Finnish and international academies, societies and organizations.
Publications
Pekka Neittaanmäki has published 13 monographs covering issues such as optimization, simulation and mathematical and numerical modelling. In addition, he has published approximately 300 scientific journals and conference papers.
