Outhouse tipping

Outhouse tipping is a prank knows as part of Halloween, traditions, allegedly sometimes as a revenge for not being given a treat. As the name suggests, the prank consists of upsetting an outhouse.

The Halloween-style prank involves sneaking upon an unoccupied outhouse in the darkness of the night to overturn it. A more cruel version involves tipping an occupied outhouse. This kind of prank is documented as having a decades-long tradition in the history of the Filmore School in Lakeshore, Michigan. A less drastic version is shaking the outhouse, pretending to be tipping it over.

Legendary versions of elaborate outhouse pranks have been preserved in the histories of various schools, towns, and communities.

The prank itself is a topic of a joke. For example, in 1992, during the annual North Kansas City Snake Parade, a course in "Outhouse Tipping 101" was given in an open-air classroom.
