Onedata

Onedata is an open source storage solution, which integrates the users' data which pieces are kept on storage spaces from various providers. The project's vision is a data world without barriers, yet still secure enough to keep the data privacy. The access to the distributed pieces of user's data is as simple as access to data on the local disk. Onedata is a Storage as a Service (STaaS) working in global space accessible via CDMI, REST API, BUI or POSIX API/CLI (via a FUSE filesystem). It acts as a storage gateway removing barriers to data. The onedata project is supported by the PLGrid Infrastructure.

History

Onedata has its roots in the PLGrid project in which a task concerning the unifying of data access to various and heterogeneous storage resources used in the PLGrid infrastructure has been started in 2012. The developed software, called VeilFS, provided uniform data access to organizationally distributed storage systems. As the project evolved a new initiative based on VeilFS and aimed at providing a global storage space for user's data kept at different storage resource providers has been created and named onedata.
