Objects from The Lost Room

The Objects from The Lost Room are powerful artifacts from the Sci Fi Channel mini-series The Lost Room. The set consists of roughly one hundred everyday items one would expect to find in an occupied motel room in the 1960s. They are indestructible and possess various supernatural powers.

Description
In the series, the Objects were created when the Event wiped Room 10 of the Sunshine Motel from history. Room 10 was displaced in space and time, as were the Objects, and each object was given supernatural powers.

So long as the Objects are outside the Room, each is indestructible and possesses a supernatural power of some sort. These powers, though unique to each item, are not necessarily useful; for example, the Comb stops time for ten seconds, whereas the Wristwatch can hard-boil an egg placed within the band. Most Objects tend to be activated as one would regularly use them, such as the requirement that the Comb be run through the owner's hair (a bald man could not make use of it) in order to trigger its effect. Objects can also be combined to create different effects. The Wristwatch, for example, can be used in tandem with the Knife (whose abilities are undiscovered) to give the user a form of telepathy. There are higher-order combinations of three or more Objects that yield still newer powers, such as a group of six objects that cause the door to Room 9 of the Sunshine Motel to open in a devastating manner when opened with the Key.

When the Objects are within the Room, they return to their original state as harmless items and can be destroyed in that state. Any Object destroyed while in the Room, according to the Occupant, is replaced by another similar object, in accordance with the law of conservation of matter, which he calls Conservation of Objects.

The Objects are categorized into somewhat haphazard classifications. Objects which demonstrate no known effect (e.g. the Toothbrush, Bible, Cigarettes) are classified as dormant, while Objects whose potential can be lethal (e.g. the Pen and The Glass Eye) are treated as weapons.

Several characters in the series also believe that, within the set, there is an Object central to the others (besides the Motel Key, which is considered the most powerful) referred to as the "Prime Object." The descriptions of it vary, but it is commonly said to have power over the others. Throughout the miniseries, several Objects are suspected of being the Prime Object, but according to the Occupant, there is no real Prime Object. The Occupant, the one sentient Object, is able to sense and repel the other Objects, as well as retrieve items lost during a "reset" of the Room, but does not hold the kind of power that the Prime Object is purported to have.

| Bus Ticket
| Yucca Transit Lines Ticket # 11560 - When the Bus Ticket is touched to a person's skin, that person is transported to Route 66 outside Gallup, New Mexico the town where Motel Sunshine is found. The town is referred to as the "center of the universe," presumably the nexus for the objects since it is their origin point. Those transported fall from the sky and land face first at just enough speed for the impact to be disorienting but not harmful. The Bus Ticket's origin is Willowbrook, Arizona, where Eddie McCleister presumably lived with his wife before the Event. A portion of the Bus Ticket was duct taped to keep it from affecting the user.

While time is stopped, the holder can move and carry objects that are unsecured, but cannot move anything that is held in place. Multiple rapid uses of the Comb can cause nausea due to motion sickness. When combined with the Key and the Watchbox, the user can step into an alternate dimension inside Room 9.

The user must also have a clear picture of the door they wish to go to or else the room will pick a door at random. | Occupant
| Being the only human and therefore sentient Object, the Occupant is able to consciously control the natural tendencies of Objects to seek other Objects, allowing him to repel them. The Occupant is also able to remain conscious during a "reset" of the room, during which time he can access the alternate dimension in which non-Objects are stored. Being an Object, the Occupant is indestructible and apparently immune to The Effects of time while outside the room. Now dead since he was killed by Joe Miller who has apparently inherited his "powers" and so become an Object.

| Polaroid
| An undeveloped Polaroid that, when looked at in the proper location, allows the user to see the Lost Room as it was before the incident. The user must be at the site of the missing room of the Sunshine Motel to view the past in three dimensions. It has the label "Gallup" On It, although this may be a label that was applied later and not part of the Object itself. Ruber also saw a vision after staring at the Polaroid for a prolonged period, but this may have been an hallucination induced by his heat exhaustion.

| Quarter
| U.S. Quarter 1961. When swallowed, temporarily brings the holder's desired memories of a person to life and gives them solid form, lasting a few days. The user can shut it off at will and the effect presumably ends automatically when the coin is passed by bowel movement. People created from the memories seem to display little or no independent personality, and at best act as the bearer remembers they would have acted. Although the remembered/created people appear fully clothed, the quarter is not shown creating inanimate objects alone, without someone wearing them.
