Noegnud
noegnud ("dungeon" in reverse) is a graphical user interface using SDL for NetHack and Slash'EM that features the following modes:
- Character view
- Tiled 2D view
- Isometric 2D view
- True 3D view (still in development as of 2007)
Since OpenGL is used to render the scene, rotation is supported for all modes.
Controversy
In 2004, the author of noegnud generated controversy when he announced a politically-motivated licensing change. In protest to the Iraq war, the program would have had separate licensing terms for US citizens and any directly or indirectly supporting American business interests.1 The author withdrew this proposed change, citing pressure from the director of Sourceforge. This license change likely would have violated the definition of Free Software, as well as the Open Source Definition, which require non-discriminatory licensing terms.
