Nkiru Vera Nwadinobi

Nkiru Vera Nwadinobi is a Nigerian Guidance and Counsellor, academic and the Chairman of Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board (ASUBEB). She is a lecturer in the Department Of Guidance and Counselling in the Faculty of Education, Nnamdi Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, Nigeria. The Anambra State Governor, Professor Charles Soludo appointed her as the Executive Chairman of ASUBEB in 2022. The Board was inaugurated at the Governor's Lodge, Amawbia, Awka.

Career

Vera is a trained Guidance and Counsellor. She is the Secretary General of Counselling Association of Nigeria (CASSON).

She is a member of Counselling Association of Nigeria and a National Executive Member too.

Activities

Dr. Vera embarked on a monitoring visit to schools in Anambra State and discovered poor attendance of pupils and students on Mondays. This was after the Governor Soludo had issued orders on normal academic activities in every sector in the state. Thus, suspension was issued on the heads of schools that were involved. According to the Chairman, "the government approved the immediate suspension of the affected school heads for an initial period of two weeks. They were also directed to hand over duties to the next most senior officers to ensure continuity of administrative and academic activities.”

In May, 2025, The ASUBEB Chairman convened a one-day congress on education. The theme of the program was “Moral Regeneration and Value Re-orientation At The Basic Education Level: The Role Of Education Stakeholders.” The event discussed the enhancement of the formative years and building the characters as these add value.

The Chairman Dr. Vera introduced the Montessori Skills Acquisition Method of Education into the State public Schools education system. It was designed to happen in the six education zones in Anambra State. The Chairman stated that, "the implementation has commenced and that ASUBEB Board and Quality Assurance Department will commence supervision and monitoring from 8th of May, 2023 to ensure that Montessori Method is getting to all Pupils in Anambra State Public Schools."

In another development, there was an alleged N6.7 billion contract scandal in the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) that was mapped out for 2019 and 2021 educational infrastructure. This brought in the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) for investigation. However, the Chairman of ASUBEB stated that, "they are “false and fabricated” tales spun by detractors resistant to the transformative changes taking place in Anambra under the current administration." It was said that this happened during the last administration which cause the confusion on the Board. The Chairman also stated that they followed due process in its contract awards, while addressing a press conference.
