Nasra Mohamoud

Nasra Mohamoud Abdillahi is from Burao. She grew up in Burao, where she developed in education and playing with other children. Nasra is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Education with Montessori. Her studies focus on child centered learning, hands-on activities and helping children’s individual needs and their development. Nasra’s goal is to become a Montessori teacher who created a learning environment where children feel freedom, motivation, and independence. In addition, she also aims to continue her enhanced teaching skills and participate to improve early childhood education within her community

Early Life

Nasra was born in Burao, where she also grew up. She finished her early education at Togdheer Primary School, where she increased basic learning and interest in education. From a young age she was involved supporting young children and helping older people in her community, which taught her the importance of kindness, respect and taking responsibility. These experiences helped her to understand the value of others and affect her decision to pursue Montessori education.

Education

Her Secondary school was Sheikh Bashiir Secondary School from 2019 to 2023, where she built an academic foundation and also developed an interest in education. In 2023 she started at Barwaaqo university, where she is currently pursuing a bachelor of Education with Montessori and she expected to graduate in May 2026. During her studies, Nasra has enjoyed teaching Methodology and assessment. Teaching Methodology has supported her to understand the different and effective ways to teach students, since students have different learning styles. Also, assessment has helped her to learn how to assess students and evaluate their understanding in a fair and equitable way. Throughout her academic journey at university, she has improved teaching skills. She has learned how to use different teaching methods which are called (Differentiation Instructions) to support different learning styles. Additionally, she gained strong classroom management skills to build an organized and positive learning environment where every child feels included. Moreover, she has developed her communication and lesson planning skills. Her academic goals is to become a Montessori teacher who can assist children in learning at their own pace, use child-centered teaching strategies and also continue to develop her skills and learn languages.

Interests and Activities

Nasra actively participates in a variety of interests and activities outside of her academic studies. She was a member of the Young Initiative club, where students identified community problems and worked together to develop good solutions. This experience has helped her to build her critical thinking and problem solving skills. She has taken a leadership role, where she motivated her peers and shared ideas with her group members and supported guide activities. Furthermore, she participated in volunteer work within her community, where she helped schools by assisting to teach children during her breaks. In this experience, she applies the knowledge and skills from her studies in real classrooms. She has done personal projects in her Teaching Life Science class, which were about human senses, how they connect and how they support as humans. Now, Nasra is working on her Copstone project, which focuses on comparing Montessori and non-Montessori. This project allows her to explore a variety of teaching methods and understand their impact on young children’s learning. Goals and Future Plans

Her main goal is to become a Montessori teacher who helps children’s learning. She wants to affect children's learning by using students-centered learning and manipulatives. She wants to build a classroom and environment where children feel comfortable, safe and explore and to become curious. In the future, she wants to impact her community to develop young children’s learning to improve their learning process and use effective methods while she is teaching. Also, to make her assessment to become fair and all students will stand in the same position for her. She wants to solve the wrong teaching style that most of her community teachers teach children, which is teacher-centered. She aims to use different methods to meet individual learning styles of her students.

Personal Philosophy or values

Nasra believes that education is very important to change people's lives and their careers. She also believes that communication is very essential to everyone. Because it connects and interacts with people all over the world. She values teaching that helps every student and supports them to learn in a friendly and their own pace environment. In leadership, Nasra believes in leading by showing respect, values and support to others. Moreover, she values collaboration and communication. She thinks that good leadership respects, listens and communicates with others by giving voice. She serves her community. She believes it is crucial to give back to her community by supporting learners, and sharing knowledge. She wants to use her teaching strategies to make a positive difference in her community. Furthermore, she values innovation in education. She consider teachers should use new ideas, and different methods to enhance learning.
