Mughal Kassar مغل کسر/ مغل قصر
Kassar/Mughal Kassar urdu: مغل کسر/ مغل قصر is one of the three major land owning tribes in the Dhani country of district Chakwal in Punjab province, Pakistan. They occupy the northern part of Dhani, called Babial and Chaupeda. In the Punjab settlement report of 1862, it is mentioned that they had come from Jammu along with the Mair-Minhas tribe and had been settled in this area by the Mughal Emperor, Zaheerudin Babur. However, in Punjab census of 1881 they claimed that they themselves are of Mughal decent and presented a fabulous family tree, which connects their lineage with Babur in 8th generation and shows their ancestor kassar as a distant cousin of Babur. Hence, they claimed that they had come with Babur's army as his fellow tribesmen and were settled in Dhani along with the Mairs and Kahuts by the Emperor himself.Kassar always prefer their own cast for marriages but second priority goes to Mair Minhas & Kahout Quraish.

Kassar tribes are spread in whole district Chakwal but in some towns & villages they have dominant presence, such as
Farid Kasar, Bal Kassar, Sarkal Kassar,Dhok Peeli, Dhudhial, Tattral, Dhalal etc
Kassar are also settled in Kashmir in District Muzafar Abad and Pounch. First settlement was done in Khalana and then they migrated to Ponch. Because of their first settlement in Khalana they are also called “Qazian-e-Khalana”.
