Mqabba Albions A.F.C.

Mqabba Albions Amateur Football Club was set up in 1997 by Richard Spiteri, Pierre Micallef and Arthur Pisani, with the aim to give youths within the same locality the opportunity to play and enjoy the football game at a competitive level, and to create a social and friendly atmosphere amongst the players/members. The club was subsequently affiliated in the Malta Amateur Football Association and participated in the league organised by the same association for ten consecutive years. Along the years the club began engaging youths from other localities as well, both to enrich the team and to give other youths a fair chance to develop their skill. The club's greatest achievement during these ten years was the promotion to the First Division in the season 2004-2005. For the season 2008-2009, the committee decided to take on a new challenge and join the Swan Football League. During this season Mqabba Albions decided to go online and its website proved to be a great success. After one season in the Swan League, and following a decision reached by the club committee, the club submitted an application to affiliate with Inter Amateur Soccer Competition (IASC), under the patronage of the Malta Football Association. The club's application was successful and as from the season 2009-2010 Mqabba Albions started competing in the IASC 2nd Division.

‘Albion’ is the ancient name used by Romans for the island of Great Britain, probably from the Latin 'albus' meaning white, and referring to the white cliffs along the south-east coast of England. The connection with the cliffs was perhaps the reason behind the choice of the name, symbolising strength and team force. Mqabba Albions club, even though small and with limited resources, is well organised and strives on discipline and commitment. The players of the team play an active role in the running of the club, both when it comes to funding as well as committee responsibilities. This accentuates the players’ dedication and enthusiasm towards football. The team encountered various obstacles during these ten years but has always managed to overcome them, making leverage on its unity. The colours of Mqabba Albions are orange and black.
