MPO Educational Travel

MPO Educational Travel is an educational tour operator providing fully-customized educational travel for school groups. It is a private business founded in 1997 by Martin Plante and Monica Ortiz with head office in Hawkesbury, Ontario, Canada. MPO Educational Travel is a member of TICO(Travel Industry Council of Ontario), ACTA(Association of Canadian Travel Agencies) and SYTA(Student Youth Travel Association).

History

The 2 owners realized the need for fully-customized educational itineraries and founded the company in 1997. The owners both have geography degrees. Since then, more than 100,000 students, ranging from elementary to University, have been moved across Canada and the United States 1. Middle schools form the largest part of the business. Montreal, Quebec City and Ottawa are the travel areas of specialty, although trips are provided for all areas requested. Trips focus on educational content, language and culture.

Service

Expert guidance and assistance is provided in helping educators customize their itineraries, selecting the educational tours and activities that best suit the purpose of the trip as well as the needs of the students. Trips are educational so that students can learn and have new experiences. Through the use of the MPO Travel Guide 2 and MPO services, educators can locate the appropriate information and activities needed to make their trip a success.

TICO is an organization mandated by the Ontario Government to administer the Ontario Travel Industry Act, 2002, which governs approximately 3,000 travel retailers and travel wholesalers registered in Ontario.

ACTA has a Code of Ethics and Standards that encourages members to provide the highest quality of travel services to the public and stipulates guidelines for relations between ACTA members. ACTA represents the interests of some 2,600 small, medium and large travel retail corporations which employ 18,000 travel professionals in communities across the country.3

SYTA is a non-profit, professional trade association whose mission is to promote and support integrity and professionalism among student and youth travel service providers and to promote quality student/youth travel services that enhance social, cultural, and educational growth.
