Mobil Corgi Cars
In 1989 - Mobil Filling stations in the UK were trying to encourage to stop using 4* petrol and use either Unleaded, Super Plus Unleaded or Diesel fuels.
In order to do this a promotion was carried out to collect 12 limited EDition corgi cars.
The promotion involved collecting 10 tokens, a token was collected for each £6 spent on the above fuels. The average large car then cost around £18 to fill up and therefore drivers colelcted approx 3 tokens at a time
The following 12 vehicles could be collected
Astra 16v Rally
BMW 325i
Pergeot 205 T16
Merecedes Benz W154
Porsche 944
Volvo Racing Truck
Ferrari 308 GTS
Bentley 4.5 Ltr
Benetton Formula one car
Bugatti Type 35
Mercedes 190E 2.3 ltr
Jaguar XJS
Later on in the promotion mobil allowed 4* drivers to collect tokens however they required 16 rather than the normal 10.
These vehicles have become very collectable and can often be found at collectors fairs and internet auction sites
After the closure of the promotion in 1990 in some areas and 1991 in others, Mobil launched Argos premier points loyalty scheme that carried on after the companies merger with BP, this scheme closed in 2002 with the launch of the nectar loyalty scheme.
