Minor locations in Sonic the Hedgehog

In the Sonic the Hedgehog comic books, there a number of locations that have less prominent roles than others.

Astrological Bodies

White Comet

Discovered by Jordann and Kayla-La, Dimitri and his brother Edmund's great-grand parents, the white comet was on a direct course to impact and destroy Echidnaopolis. Because the two had managed to discover it in time, the Echidnas were able to conceive a way to save their city. By harnessing the power of twelve Chaos Emeralds, Echidnaopolis and a large part of the planet around it was lifted from Mobius' surface into the sky. The comet struck the continent of Downunda where the city had formerly been.

Cities/Buildings

Devil's Gulag

The Devil's Gulag was a prison complex located on an island offshore, used by Kingdom of Acorn though left empty for years until the present day. It was brought back into service after Sonic the Hedgehog was framed for the '[...]' of Princess Sally, but a Robotnik attack allowed Sonic to escape before he even arrived at the prison.

Devil's Gulag's is situated atop a tall spire in the middle of a stretch of ocean filled with volcanos, and the lava flow continues to heat the surrounding water, ensuring that if prisoners broke out of their cells, they would be unable to make it back to the mainland alive. After the fall of Ivo Robotnik and his empire, the Freedom Fighters were able to capture many villains they had formerly dealt with, including Robotnik's nephew Snively, Nack the Weasel, Drago Wolf, Sleuth 'Doggy' Dogg, the Fearsome Foursome, Warlord Kodos, and Uma Arachnis. They were all imprisoned at the Devil's Gulag, but managed to escape due to unknown assistance from Dr. Eggman (known by that time as Robo-Robotnik) but assumed at the time Snively was responsible for the caper.

Feral Forest

Feral Forest, a small village of Mobians, was a "back-water burg out in the middle of nowhere" according to Dr. Eggman. When Elias Acorn decided to flee from his responsibilities of assuming the role of king, he fled to Feral Forest to lead a simpler life. He became a farmer and settled down, marrying the local Megan, and having a daughter with her. The community came under attack by Dr. Eggman and his army of E-105 bots. The E-105's were destroyed when Sonic and Sally Acorn showed up, who attacked with the help of Feral Forest's locals.

Freedom HQ

Freedom HQ, as it's name would suggest, is the headquarters of the Freedom Fighters in the Sonic the Hedgehog Archie comics. Originally, it was a large limestone cavern with a number of chambers used for various purposes, including: an operations center, laboratory, dining room and kitchen, and even a hair salon used by Bunnie Rabbot. It was retired after the defeat of Robotnik Prime, but was refurnished as a birthday present for Sonic after he returned from space.

Freedom HQ is built directly into a rock wall to make it easily defensible, and is disguised from above as a small, dome-like hill. This hill is equipped with solar panels that provide power to the interior. Only two entrances exist: the front entrance, which is a conventional door apart from being somewhat disguised, and the Great Oak Slide, which was the Freedom Fighters' original method of entering. The slide's entry point is cleverly disguised as a tree stump, and the slide itself was used by the Freedom Fighters to enter and exit.

A home away from home for the Freedom Fighters, the base is also where the Chaotix resided before both groups moved to New Mobotropolis. The interior consisted of three areas: the bunks, a coed area with personal space for the invidual members of the groups; the lab, where the Freedom Fighters would analyze various objects, substances, or Situations; and the kitchen/common area, where all the members of both teams would gather for recreation and to eat.

Shortly after it was refurnished, Freedom HQ suffered two attacks: one by Bean the Dynamite and Bark the Polar Bear, and another initiated by Dr. Robotnik that wrecked the base and Knothole itself. However, the Freedom Fighters and Chaotix apparently plan to rebuild Freedom HQ so as to draw Robotnik's attention away from New Mobotropolis.

Golden Hive Colony

Home of Charmy Bee, Golden Hive Colony existed in peace until recently. After Sonic the Hedgehog was transported to another part of the galaxy, Dr. Eggman began all out war with all his opposition. He invaded Golden Hive Colony and had it completely destroyed. The only known survivors to date are Charmy and his fiance Saffron. When Espio the Chameleon attempted to locate any survivors on Dr. Eggman's computers, he was unable to find any. Having had it turned into a factory for the Eggman Empire, Epsio set its reactors to overload, causing it to blow up.

Kingdom of Mercia

The Kingdom of Mercia consists predominantly of forest and rivers, and its citizens GeneRally use Old English vocabulary. After Dr. Robotnik secured his power in Mobotropolis, he began his expansion outward. He eventually came across the Kingdom of Mercia, and roboticized its population, except for the former-king, Rob O' the Hedge. He then placed the High SHERIFF, Antoine D'Coolette's roboticized father, in charge as his sub boss to monitor the lands and ensure Robotnik's law was enforced.

During Knuckles brief time with the Lost Tribe of Albion, the tribe came under attack by roboticized Mobians from Mercia. When he went to locate and rescue them, he came across Rob O' the Hedge, who offered his assistance. The two later stumbled across Sonic and his friend Miles "Tails" Prower, who had been captured by the High Sheriff. All of the prisoners and members of the Lost Tribe were freed and managed to escape, but they were unable to restore the High Sheriff's mind. Months later, using the Sword of Acorns, the Sheriff's free will was restored. Following these events, the Bem deroboticized all of the Mobians, allowing the citizens of Mercia to go back to living their free and peaceful lives. It was later referred to by Amy Rose -Rob O' the Hedge's cousin- as Knottingham.

Kintopolis

Old Megopolis

Old Megopolis is a city resembling a post-apocalyptic New York in the Northern Hemisphere of Mobius. Given that there is a damaged Statue of Liberty offshore, it is likely the remains of the big "apple" (as Sonic calls it in the issue) after the Xorda attacked with there gene bomb many millennia ago. Dr. Eggman briefly used this city after Robotropolis was wiped out by Station Square's nuclear attack to construct a new artificial body for himself. It was quickly destroyed by Sonic. Currently, Eggman resides in New Megopolis, a much larger city located to the north. It acts as the capital of the Eggman Empire.

Sand Blast City

Located far from the lush forests of Knothole Village, Sand Blast City is located in the middle of the desert. After Ivo Robotnik's takeover and expansion, Sand Blast City became another conquered area. He roboticized many of its citizens and installed sub-bosses to ensure any resistance was crushed. Some managed to evade capture and remained hidden. When Robotnik was defeated and killed by Sonic, word spread to Sand Blast City. The news gave the SandBlasters -Sand Blast City's version of Freedom Fighters which modeled themself after Sonic's group- the inspiration to follow in Sonic's footsteps They were able to overthrow the sub-bosses and reclaim their city. Once they reclaimed the city, the Robians (roboticized Mobians) were pushed out of the city, which then activated its dome force field.

During Sonic and Tails' adventures to track down and defeat the wizard Ixis Naugus, their plane crashed near the city. After being discovered by Jack Rabbit, leader of the SandBlasters, and his recovery team, they fought their way through a group of Robians before making it back to the city. Once inside, Jack attempted to convince Sonic to stay there forever, acting as the city's defender against to Robians, who were constantly trying to get through the dome shield. Realizing they wouldn't let him leave, Sonic destroyed the shield generator, which was hidden inside a giant monument of Sonic, allowing him and Tails to fly out and escape. The city was then overrun by the Robian hordes.

Almost a year later, Jack Rabbit sent out a distress call in an attempt to lour Sonic back to the city to enact his revenge. Instead, Bunnie Rabbot went to investigate and was captured by the SandBlasters. Jack revealed they had managed to capture and imprison the Robians, which they would then unleash on Sonic once they found and captured him. Realizing Sonic would come looking for Bunnie after her prolonged disappearance, Jack unleashed the Robians on Bunnie. She successfully defeated them, and left the SandBlasters chased by the undamaged Robians.

Temple of Shazamazon

Continents

Downunda

Originally the continent which Echidnaopolis existed on before it ascended into the sky, Downunda is essentially the Australia of Mobius. Athair, Knuckles' great-grandfather, lived in the crater and former site of Angel Island for many years. During Dr. Ivo Robotnik's reign, it was controlled by his sub-boss Crocbot. Home to the Downunda Freedom Fighers, Downunda has seem much of its own action against the forces of Robotnik. When Tails had come across Downunda during his solo adventure, he assisted in the DFF's attack on Crocbot's lair. During his attempt to escape, Crocbot's tank was knocked off balance and it fell into the crater. The explosion seemingly killed Athair, at the rising smoke looked like his head, and after this Athair had moved on to a higher plane, coming back in the form of a ghost.

Later on, it turned out Crocbot had survived the explosion. He'd used the Combots he'd received earlier from Dr. Robotnik to build a prison camp within the crater. It was liberated by the DFF, finally ending Crocbot's control of the continent once and for all. During the destruction of the camp however, Crocbot had succeeded in planet a mind control device on one of the DFF, Duck "Bill" Platypus. He then used "Bill" to recruit other platypuses to imprison the DFF and take control of the continent again. His plans were however foiled by the DFF with the help of Sonic and Tails, and his remains were brought back to Mobotropolis. Downunda has lived in peace since then.

Southern Tundra

A frozen wasteland, and likely the future Antarctica, the Southern Tundra is the coldest continent on Mobius, and was the location of Nate Morgan. It was also where Sonic and Tails located and confronted Ixis Naugus.

Planets

Argentium

Home planet of the Bem, Argentium is also known as "Wheel World" due to its shape, which is obviously that of an enormous wheel. Sonic the Hedgehog arrived here as the last stop on his Xorda-induced trip through space, and was surprised to learn that he wasn't the only Mobian there: Tails' parents Amadeus and Rosemary Prower were also guests of the Bem, having been brought to Argentium by the Bem scientist Ceneca 9009. Because Ceneca 9009 had De-Roboticized Amadeus with her outlawed Robotizer machine, she was sentenced to life in prison. Sonic agreed to help her and the Prowers, but the only ship they were able to obtain could only take one of them back to Mobius. Despite his wish that one of the Prowers go, Sonic was the one, and he traveled through the artificial wormhole adjacent to Argentium.

Merlin Prower later came to Argentium with Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles the Echidna in tow to rescue Amadeus and Rosemary, only to find the planet torn by war between the Xorda and the Black Arms. Fortunately, neither of Tails' parents were harmed, and they all returned to Mobius safely carrying news of the war. Later, A.D.A.M.'s gathering of the Chaos Emeralds revealed that Argentium was the home of the Grey Emeralds, which were later fused together by Feist into a single gemstone.

Biotex

A planet whose atmosphere is invested with deadly microbes, Biotex was once inhabited by a race of sentient beings who had evolved robotic physiology to survive the lethal conditions of their planet. Their thriving civilization came to a tragic end when a Bem scientist, Ceneca 9009, came across the species and believed that they had been wrongfully transformed into this state. With the best intentions, Ceneca created the Robotizer machine to convert them into organic beings. She was successful, but the process left the Biotexans vulnerable to the microbes. By the time she realized her mistake, they were all dead, and the Robotizer was outlawed as a result.

Biotex was later brought up when Ceneca 9009 was tried for using the Robotizer to De-Roboticize Amadeus Prower, whom she had saved from Mobius along with his wife Rosemary. Realizing the evil of Dr. Robotnik's use of the Roboticizer to turn Mobians into his slaves, Ceneca 9009 appealed to her people to move against him. Unfortunately, because she had violated the ban on the Robotizer that had been in place since the Biotex tragedy, Ceneca was sentenced to imprisonment.

Teragosa-6

During his journey through space, Sonic came across the ruins of a planet that had been shattered by unknown means. Later on, Teragosa-6 was revealed to be the location of the Purple Chaos Emeralds until they were drawn in by "the gathering."

Thoraxia

A world inhabited by sentient insects, Thoraxia was the first planet on which Sonic found himself after being flung across the galaxy by the destruction of the Quantum Dial. Found by the natives, the Hedgehog was implanted with a device that allowed him to communicate with them and other alien species, and even with his dog Muttski when he eventually returned to Mobius. Unfortunately, Sonic's stay on Thoraxia turned sour when he came across the Red Chaos Emeralds, which reacted with him to create an evil SUPER Sonic who was a separate entity from him. Despite being seriously outmatched, Sonic managed to defeat Super Sonic and save the Thoraxians, and left them behind to begin his journey home.

Later, Thoraxia's Red Emeralds were one of the six varieties drawn from across the galaxy to Mobius by A.D.A.M., and like the others they were teleported to the Zone of Silence and joined into a single Red Emerald.

Weeet

Home planet of Car-Heem, an alien scientist and collector who once held Dr. Robotnik and the Freedom Fighters captive, Weeet is home to a race of red-eyed, armor-wearing giants who are trained to live alone in space. Not much else is known AbOUT the planet or its inhabitants, other than the fact that it was the original location of the Cyan Emeralds before they were brought to Mobius.

Xorda

As its name suggest, Xorda is the home planet of the Xorda race, though it is apparent that they are also a space-fairing culture. Presumably covered mostly or entirely with water since the Xorda are aquatic, Planet Xorda was where the Blue Chaos Emeralds formed, only to be extracted and gathered on Mobius courtesy of A.D.A.M.

Alternate Dimensions/Zones

Anti-Mobius

Featured in the Sonic the Hedgehog comics, Anti-Mobius is a parallel universe to Mobius which features versions of Mobius Prime's inhabitants who have personalities that are the reverse of their Prime counterparts. Sonic's doppelganger Scourge the Hedgehog (originally Evil Sonic) is a womanizing punk and former leader of the Anti-Freedom Fighters, similar alter-egos to Sonic's Freedom Fighters. Anti-Knuckles is a pacifist as opposed to the fighter that Knuckles Prime is, while Dr. Robotnik's mirror self is the kindly Dr. Kintobor.

No Zone

Home of Zonic the Zone Cop, the No Zone is a dimension parallel to Mobius Prime with one major difference: it's built at a 90 degree angle to Mobius Prime, meaning that a visitor from the No Zone-or to the No Zone-would find themself standing on the walls.

The No Zone is presumably the home of several Zone Cops besides Zonic, all of whom are dedicated to the preservation of order throughout the multiverse. In their efforts, they keep watch over the Cosmic Interstate and all the versions of Mobius that exist. Often, they merely observe, but at times breaches of interdimensional law are so severe that an officer is forced to intervene. Zonic himself has done this numerous times, usually enlisting the aid of Sonic Prime to thwart various versions of Dr. Robotnik. He has also brought in other versions of Sonic-and, by extension, himself-as well as Tails Prime and many of his counterparts as well.

Zonic's headquarters in the No Zone is a technologically advanced nerve center equipped with hundreds of computer screens. Each of these screens monitors a different dimension, as well as the Cosmic Interstate itself. Presumably, he shares this base with other Zone Cops, but they have never been seen. All Zone Cops are presumably at work restoring order to the Cosmic Interstate following Mammoth Mogul's rampage.

Twilight Zone

Following their initial defeat at the hands of Edmund, the Dark Legion was banished to the Twilight Zone. This dimension is a strange reality that differs in the extreme from Mobius proper, its most prominent law being that time that passes in the Twilight Zone is one fourth of that which passes on Mobius Prime. After a number of breakouts and rebanishments courtesy of the Brotherhood of Guardians, the Legion finally escaped the Twilight Zone for good when the Ultimate Annihilator erased The Effects of their banishment. Tobor and Kragok were later imprisoned here, only to be released by the effects of the Quantum Beam; both of them were subsequently killed when Tobor launched a [...] attack on the weapon.
