Michael Francis Heaney

Michael Heaney (b 1953) is one of Australia's leading music educators having had extensive experience in MusicAL education theory and practice in the USA on the East Coast including Philadelphia and at some of Australia's leading private schools in Queensland and New South Wales.

He is notable for his musical education techniques impacting the total performance of his students. Most of these students ProgresS from being good to outstanding in their academic and personal performance under his inspirational tutelage.

Biography

He has a Diploma in Music Education (DipMusEd) from the University of New South Wales (Australia), Licentiate Diploma (L.T.C.L.) in performance from the Trinity College London, Certificate of Teaching (T.C.) from the New South Wales Department Of Education, Bachelor of Music Education (B.M.E.) from the University of Sydney, and holds a Masters in Music (MMus) Performance (viola), and a Doctor of Philosophy in Music Education Research (PhD) from the Florida State University.

While at Florida State University Michael Heaney studied with the eminent music researchers, Professors Amy Brown and Clifford K. Madsen, and distinguished himself by formulating a taxonomy for qualitative research methodology necessary for identifying the factors responsible for developing talented children in music.

In 1994 the United States government ranked him as one of the world’s leading music educators for entry to the USA and he was granted “Permanent Resident of Extraordinary Ability".
