Michael Clarke (radio presenter)
Michael Gerard Clarke (born 25th January, 1990 in Belfast, Northern Ireland) is a local radio presenter who currently works for RSL, Carrickfergus FM. He is at present completing his final year at Ulidia Integrated College in Carrickfergus.
Career
Michael's first role at the station was as a co-presenter on the Maurice Taggart drive time show in 2005. After a stint as a co-presenter he was given the opportunity to host his own show.
Michael then began taking Saturday afternoon drive time shows, as well as weeknight slots. His shows became known for eclectic music choices, a "where in the world" section in which he reads odd, humorous stories from around the world, funny jingles, witty one-liners and for his sports updates; especially football matches.
As well as working for Carrickfergus FM, Clarke has also had some experience with the BBC. Being part of the BBC Blast programme he was able to produce a short radio show for BBC Radio Ulster. He was also interviewed live on the Alan Simpson Show on BBC Radio Ulster and took part in courses on television presenting and news reading.
Clarke was involved in a cross-community documentary filmed in his school, Ulidia Integrated College, which was aimed at spreading awareness on matters such as sectarianism across the Eastern world. He was captain of Carrick Rangers Under-17 team before a broken leg forced him to prematurely retire. He has also played basketball with members of the Harlem Globetrotters.
