Meghann Scully

Meghann Scully, Miss Galway 2009, born 1991.

A native of Ardrahan, Scully won the 2009 Miss Galway beauty contest in June. Scully says she was "shocked and delighted" with her success and is now determined to do her best to land the Miss Ireland title in Dublin on Saturday night. "It's really been great since I got the title of Miss Galway. I've been attending a lot of different events, which I would have gotten to go to otherwise and there has been a lot of photoshoots and pampering from my sponsors, so I've really enjoyed it."

She was entered into the contest in May by friends, and bookmaker Paddy Power is offering odds of 16/1 on her winning the Miss Ireland contest. To increase her chances, Meghann has been studying current affairs such as the upcoming Lisbon Treaty referendum in preparation for the interview section of the pageant.

"On the night, there is swimwear, eveningwear and the interview. Swimwear would probably be my favourite because it's a bit of craic but the eveningwear and interview show your personality, so that's really good too. I've no idea what the questions are going to be but I've been reading brochures on Lisbon all week just in case!"

A crowd of friends and family will accompany Meghann to the Miss Ireland pageant on the night, where she will appear in a custom made classic red gown by Ail RUiN of Clarinbridge. The winner of the pageant will represent Ireland in the Miss World event, which takes place in South Africa in December.

She is currently a media student and hopes to forge a career in television in the future and feels that the Miss Galway experience has been of great benefit.
