Mavrov Gennady Ivanivich
Mavrov Gennady Ivanivich (born 31/10/1959), doctor of medical sciences, professor. He is a well-known dermatovenereologist in Ukraine, a scientist and a teacher.
G.I. Mavrov has begun scientific activity in 1980 when worked in the Student's scientific organization of the Kharkov medical institute, under direction of Professor B.A. Zadorozhniy. In 1983 G.I. Mavrov finished with distinction of the Kharkov medical institute and has been left to faculty of dermatovenereology for scientific and pedagogical work. With 1983 for 1985 he was trained in clinical internship. In 1985 he was appointed on a post of the assistant to faculty where has worked till 1993. In 1988 he protected his master's thesis: «Revealing of Chlamydia trachomatis infection by means of ELISA». In 1996 he has protected the thesis for a doctor's degree «Reproductive function in patients with chlamidiosis and a mycoplasmosis: an estimation of a condition, treatment and preventive maintenance». From 1996 to 2009 G.I. Mavrov worked as a manager of venereology branch of Institute for Dermatology and Venereology Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine. In 2009 he was appointed by director of this institute. G.I. Mavrov' is actively engaged in researches in the field of sexually transmitted infections (STI) – epidemiology, properties of causative organisms, development of new methods of treatment and prevention, and also the organization of venereal management. He has authored more than 400 peer-reviewed publications, edited 3 monographs, and he is the author of 12 patents. His 2005 monograph « Chlamydial infections: The biology, pathogenesis, clinic, diagnostics, treatment, and prevention» is the valuable scientific work which has united achievements of a world science and his own researches. G.I. Mavrov trained and/or mentored over 30 scientists involved in STI research and care – including 2 doctors and 12 candidates of sciences, G.I. Mavrov constantly represents Ukraine at the international scientific forums devoted to STI, and in the World Health Organization in the field of STI.
