Mary Rahman
Mary Rahman (born 14 September 1978) is an English publicist and press and public relations Consultant and Director of MRPR.
Early life
Rahman was born in London, England into a family of Bengali origin. She read English Literature at Queen Mary, University of London.
In 2001, she graduated from London School of Economics with a MSc in Media and Communications.
Career
Rahman began her career as a Press Officer of Theatre Royal Stratford East. She previously worked as a Public Relations officer for ND Music Company working with music clients such as Garage DJs, The Dreem Teem, and girl group, Mis-Teeq. She has worked across a variety of media such as Sky News Room, Sky News Radio, The Guardian, KISS-FM Breakfast Show with Bam Bam, Asian Woman magazine, BBC Radio 1Xtra’s Desi Beats and B Fashion Magazine.
In May 2004, Rahman launched her own company MRPR (Mary Rahman Public Relations) and currently has a list of clients from the arts, film, fashion and music sector. MRPR have worked with national and international artists and celebrities within the South Asian, Afro-Carribean and mainstream industry. PR Accounts include City of London Festival, Amjad Ali Khan concert at the Royal Festival Hall, Bafta Goes Bollywood (working with Shah Rukh Khan, Yash Chopra, Karan Johar, Aamir Khan, Kajol and Preity Zinta).
In 2006, MRPR represented Doug Stanhope at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, the UK Tour of South African play Township Stories, and Rafta, Rafta... starring Meera Syal at the Royal National Theatre. In 2007, MRPR’s clients included the Croydon Summer Festival with BBC Radio 1’s Bobby Friction and Nihal and a Weekend with Amitabh Bachan at British Academy of Film and Television Arts. She has also done PR for clients who include Sadler’s Wells and the Royal National Theatre.
The Company has grown its roster of clients to include work with arts venue Rich Mix Cultural Foundation, the Arts Council The Shape of Things project, Craftspace, sampad and Rasa Theatre. MRPR have also led the campaign for Alchemy-one of the largest UK South Asian arts festivals which takes place annually at the Southbank Centre working with artists such as A. R. Rahman, Susheela Raman, Talvin Singh and Raghu Dixit.
Awards
In 2003, Rahman was elected onto the Board of the Arts Marketing Association.
