Martin of Hinojosa
Saint Martin of Hinojosa, Cistercian Order, (Deza, c. 1140 - Sotoca de Tajo, September 16 1213) was an Castilian ecclesiastic, abbot of monasterio de Santa María de Huerta and bishop of Sigüenza.
Life
He was son of Miguel Muñoz de Hinojosa, Lord of Hinojosa del Campo and of Deza (Province of Soria) and courtier of Alfonso VII of León and Castile, and of Sancha Gómez, lady of Boñices; the archbishop Rodrigo Jiménez de Rada was his nephew. When he was about 20 years old he entered the Cistercian monastery of Cántavos, which in 1162 moved to its current location in Santa María de Huerta. Six or seven years later he was named abbot of the monastery, a position he left in 1191 to occupy the bishopric of Sigüenza; Two years later he made a renunciation of the diocese to return to the monastery, where he remained for the rest of his life.
Relics
He died in Sotoca in 1213 when he returned from the consecration of the newly founded monastery of Santa María de Óvila. His body was buried in the monastery of Santa María de Huerta; his head, supposedly, is in the cathedral of Sigüenza, although there are authors who assure that the one that is here belongs to the saint Sacerdos of Limoges.
