Mark Holliman

Mark Holliman (born September 19, 1983 in Germantown, Tennessee) is an American professional baseball pitcher.

College career

After playing high school baseball for Germantown High School, Holliman attended University of Mississippi where he majored in liberal arts. In 2004, he was selected first-team All-SEC. In 2005, he was named a third team, pre-season All-American by Collegiate Baseball.

Professional career

Holliman was drafted by the Chicago Cubs in the 3rd round of the 2005 Major League Baseball Draft.

He made his professional debut with the Daytona Cubs of the Advanced-A Florida State League in 2006 and moved up to the Tennessee Smokies of the Double-A Southern League in 2007, working as a starter and being named as the Southern League Pitcher of the week for the weeks of April 23 and June 25 and being named a Southern League Mid-season All-Star.

Entering the 2008 season, Holliman was ranked as the Cubs' 27th-best prospect by Baseball America, who rated Holliman as having "the best command in the (Cubs) system", projecting him as a No. 5 starter or a middle reliever. He was assigned to the Iowa Cubs of the Triple-A Pacific Coast League, was demoted back to Tennessee after a lackluster start (1-1, 5.17 ERA in 5 starts).

In December 2008, Holliman was selected by the Milwaukee Brewers in the Triple-A phase of the Rule 5 draft, and assigned to the Huntsville Stars of the Southern League for the 2009 season. He was released in January, 2010.<ref="bbamtrans1">

Mark started 2010 by signing with the Winnipeg Goldeyes of the independent Northern League. After a very good start (4-1, 2.02 ERA in 8 starts) his contract was purchased in June by the Boston Red Sox, who assigned him to the Salem Red Sox of the Advanced-A Carolina League. He was later promoted to the Pawtucket Red Sox of the Triple-A International League.

Holliman re-signed with Winnipeg (now in the independent American Association) on March 7, 2011, but was released on April 30 before ever getting into a game for the Goldeyes in the season.
