Marcial Martínez de Ferrari

Marcial Martínez de Ferrari (30 October 1866 – 16 August 1950) was a Chilean politician who served in ministerial posts in the early twentieth century.

Biography

He played an active role in Chilean diplomacy. He served as Minister Plenipotentiary of President Juan Luis Sanfuentes to Uruguay. Among the agreements he signed were a Peace Treaty between the two states, the Continental South American Postal Union Convention on behalf of Chile, and an agreement on the practice of the liberal professions between both nations.

Thanks to advances in communications, particularly telegraphy and postal services, Martínez, together with Vice Admiral Jorge Montt and Dr. Pedro L. Ferrer, established the first governing board of the Chilean Red Cross headquartered in Santiago, enabling Vittorio Cuccuini's work to function harmoniously throughout the country.

Between 1920 and 1922, he served as mayor of San Bernardo.
