History and description

The palace was built to a design by Juan de Sariñena between 1541 and 1551 to serve as the venue for commercial exchange, instead of using ecclesiastical precincts such as that of the Seo.

The building's design draws inspiration from the Loggia of Valencia and from that of Majorca and represents the most important Spanish Renaissance-style building in all of Aragon, as well as the first in which the influences of the Florentine palaces of the Quattrocento are blended with the nuances of Aragonese Mudéjar.

As is customary in Aragonese architecture, the building is constructed of brick and has a rectangular floor plan on three levels, which however do not reflect the internal volume, which consists of a single floor.

Today the building is used as an exhibition hall.
