List of main characters on Pokémon

This is a list of main characters that Appear in the anime show, Pokémon.

Current Main Characters

Ash Ketchum

Ash Ketchum has been the show's protagonist, ever since Episode 1: "Pokémon! I Choose You!" He started off his Pokémon journey in the Kanto region, with a very disobiedient Pikachu. Although Ash and Pikachu did not get along well at first, after a close encounter with a flock of Spearow, they became friends. Since then the two have met many different trainers, caught many different Pokémon, and have accomplished many different challenges. They are currently in the Sinnoh region, working their way through the eight Sinnoh Pokémon gyms. Ash was played by Veronica Taylor from Seasons 1-8, but was replaced by Sarah Natochenny for Seasons 9, onwards.

Dawn

Dawn is a pretty recent character to Pokémon anime. She started off in the Shinoh region with the penguin Pokémon, Piplup. She has competed in various different contests, and made rivals such as Zoey. Dawn is played by Emily Williams.

Brock

Brock has palled around with Ash ever since Season 1. He started off as the Gym Leader of the Pewter City Gym, but ended up joining Ash, once he realized that he wanted to become a Pokémon breeder as opposed to a Gym Leader. Brock was played by Eric Stuart from Seasons 1-8, but was replaced with Bill Rogers for Seasons 9, onwards.

Team Rocket

Jessie, James, and Meowth are the three nimwitted members of Team Rocket, who have wanted Ash's Pikachu for a long time as of now. At first they did not, but upon seeing how powerful it was, they changed their minds. To date, Team Rocket has appeared in more episodes of the anime then any other character, with the exceptions of Ash and Pikachu. The only two episodes they have not appeared in were Episode 1, and an episode of Season 8, which was unaired outside Japan. Despite this, they haven't caught Pikachu, and presumably never will. Jessie, James and Meowth were played respectively by Rachel Lillis, Eric Stuart, and Maddie Blaustein from Seasons 1-8, but Jessie was replaced by Michelle Knotz for Season 9, with James and Meowth both being replaced by Jimmy Zoppi.

Former Main Characters

Misty

Misty initially did not like Ash. After the boy stole her bike to get Pikachu to safety, she followed him for revenge, but as the seasons went on, she actually developed a crush on him. But when her bike was fixed, she had no choice but to take care of her sisters' Cerulean City Gym, while they went around the world on a cruise. Although they thought they never would, Ash and Misty have seen each other on various occasions. Misty was played by Rachel Lillis for Seasons 1-8, but was replaced by Michelle Knotz for Seasons 9, onwards. Surprisingly Knotz has done a surprisingly good job imitating Lillis with this character.

May

May was the next girl Ash and Pikachu encountered on their journey. She was also next in line for getting her bike destroyed by Pikachu. She started her journey in the Hoenn region with Torchic, and was accompanied by her brother, Max. She competed in contests from Hoenn and Kanto and met various rivals, including Drew, Harley, and Soledad. She unhappy when her time had come to leave Ash and his friends, but she she met someone new- Russell, who had become her crush. May went on to become one of the in Petalburg City, where challengers face a double battle against May and Russell.
