Uniquely, this episode was shot entirely on interior sets (apart from a brief stock shot of the exterior of the Aidensfield Arms) and contains no period music.

Later the man tries it on with Carol in her house, and she kicks him and shoves him out the door. Rob wants to apologize, and says that he is fed up of falling out and wants to remain friends. she says back "just friends" and kisses him. he is shocked at first but then puts down his wine glass and kisses her back. An attractive widow catches Bernie's eye - but does she only want his money?

Rachel comes into the fete and Carol is annoyed at her because she thinks, Rachel was the one to make Rob go.

A worker at Albert Ross's farm, Josh, is injured when a vehicle backs into him. Miller is determined to get Ross, at whose farm many accidents takes place and whom Miller suspects hits his daughter. The subsequent investigation sees Josh and his friend Stan Keaton (Jeff Hordley) try for better conditions, and Miller is accused of assaulting Ross. Meanwhile, David becomes friendly with a famous musician who is in hiding, and Peggy plans to make money by selling his whereabouts to the national press.

Two new residents put PC Mason in an awkward position both professionally and personally. He fancies the woman but later finds out he was only part of a plot to get her away from her husband. Carol and Joe fall out because of this and stop being friends. While the village rally round to celebrate oscars birthday, he gets more than he expected when Gina goes into labour. Carol helps and they find out it is a baby boy and they name him Phillip Oscar Bellamy. David decides to learn to play the piano. Carol's ex says they should give things another go, and she turns him down. Later Joe and Carol walk home together and they both admit they were jealous, Joe of Carols ex, and Carol of the woman Joe fancied. They go off in separate directions but then run back and kiss.

An encounter with a gang of armed men presents Miller with a difficult dilemma, which puts his professional career at stake. Soon PC Mason finds out and decides he must save his boss’s career but after his daughter leaves a clever message they are able to trace where she has been left and rescue her. PC Mason and PC Wetherby struggle to deal with student protesters who are furious at the presence of a suspected [...] collaborator in the town, and the situation escalates further when an attempt is made on the man's life. DS Dawson also gets involved and they must work together to stop the protesters. Meanwhile Joe and Carol have their first official date after recently becoming a couple and Gina gets used to Motherhood.

He tricks two young boys into giving him information and keeping it a secret that he is staying in there barn, but later, when he tries to rob, a bigger house, he is found out and must give himself up, when DS Dawson Catches him. while Peggy ropes David in to help her make clay pots.. Elsewhere, Gina, Carol and Dawn have decided to get a table at the charity dinner dance and, fed up of always staying at the pub, Carol invites Joe to be her date. Joe soon realizes the idea is becoming more and more unlikely and DS Dawson becomes jealous of Joe and carol spending time together. George Cole Guest stars in the 350th episode.

Carol is tending to single mother Barbara Gresham, who’s just given birth to a baby boy. Carol does her best to reassure her but she has problems of her own - her old friend from Barnardo’s, Janet, has arrived in the village with news that she has found Carol’s mother. She later find out that her friend tricked her into believing it was her real mom because the woman was dying and Janet, wanted Carol to care for her. Later Joe comforts her and realizes that people can stoop that low. Meanwhile, Wetherby and Younger have been unsuccessfully searching for the Chief Constable’s dog all day and are eventually forced to turn to Peggy to help. After a while they find the dog, and Peggy is rewarded with £25.

A young hippie, collapses. Mason and Miller question him in hospital about who attacked him but Mickey refuses to tell them anything. The police start to wonder if he has something to hide. Carol’s concerned when she notices another hippie, Kim outside the post office because she look like she has been beaten. Carol reveals her worries to PC Mason who uses her for information on where the hippies are staying. Carol is furious at Joe and then she breaks up with him after several arguments. Eventually they catch the man in question and put him in the cells, even though he attacks some of the police officers to try to escape. Meanwhile Don comes to the conclusion that his wife is having an affair but with a sensible talk with Gina, makes them get closer, she also makes him realise his wife has not been seeing someone else and David thinks his taxi company is being sabotaged.

The police discover some stolen goods in Frank’s van buthis wife reveals that £400 has gone missing whilst the police were in her house. Miller orders Mason to search all the officers in her presence to prove they haven’t stolen the cash. However, the money shows up in DS Dawson’s car. so Joe tries to help DS Dawson because he knows that she didn’t steal the money. They later find out that DS Siddons did to frame her because he wanted revenge for her turning him down. While talking to Rachel, Joe risks her career as he is banned from talking to her while the investigation is being carried out. Meanwhile Bernie finds out he has a daughter he never knew about but realizes, she already has a perfectly happy life without him, and is also pregnant and goes back to his old life.

Les arrives at band practice to find that most of his band are ill, and he's certain that Bill has poisoned them. Joe finds out that there two wives were behind the poisoning because they were jealous of the band taking up there husbands time. Later, Carol tells Rachel and Joe that one of the band members died from the poisoning. Dawn is swept off her feet by a handsome stranger but is he just using her. While Rachel and Joe are in the pub, she invites herself to coffee around his house and as soon as they get in the door, they kiss, run upstairs and sleep together. When carol walks in the morning, Rachel has the day off and Carol catches them kissing but still hides her inner upset and tries to remain professional. Joe and Rachel decide not to tell anyone they are dating apart from Carol and she gets jealous but Rachel is pleased.

Mason is called to help Evelyn, a widow who is receiving threats from a friend of her late husband. Her son-in-law does not want to lose the man’s business, even though it is illegal, and also gains him a lot of money. Joe urges Evelyn to cooperate after her car is run off the road by the man who is her son – in – laws business partner, and her grandson goes missing. Afterwards her grandson is fine, and Joe tricked her into revealing the illegal goings-on which causes a small argument with carol. Meanwhile, a Polish visitor arrives in search of a lost love and enrolls David to help him look for his sweetheart. After searching for her and with no further progress, Dawn steps in and helps as well as trying to make the pub more appealing to its customers, even though Oscar isn't sure about her ideas.

A boy's life is in danger when he disappears while in the gardens of an old house with his brother and sister. Wetherby tries to rescue him, only making the situation worse. While firemen begin their rescue attempt, Gina tries to comfort Don, which leads to some speculation from the rest of the village. Also, a journalist stays with Peggy, and prints an article about Don and Gina, who decide to stay away from each other and then the journalist leaves Peggy’s house without paying, and prints a photo of her asleep which makes all the villages laugh. Meanwhile Carol is sure there is someone living in The old house, and when shots are fired she has to decide whether to tell Joe or not. She does, and the police find the real reason why he was firing. Meanwhile Joe and Carol seem to be friends again.

Mr Brigstocke is accused of selling stolen goods. Joe and Don stake out the shop to catch him red-handed, but they find out that a local criminal had been breaking in and when he had died, his children took over. The children were likely to die of the same thing, as their dad for being in a poisonous air vent. Meanwhile, Carol finds out her mom has been dead for 10 years, and decides to try to find her brother, who lives in Australia. She talks things over with Joe, and they get closer. Meanwhile, a Monks van has broken down, and they stay in the village, being nice to Peggy and David. He also shows them how to catch fish with their hands, and it is illegal, but they do not get in trouble because everyone helps them when they get in trouble, even Joe, which makes Carol realize how much she still likes him.

Later on, it is found out that he was the one robbing the houses around the area, along with a local gypsy who begins dating David but stands him up so Carol breaks up with Giles. While they are dating Joe is jealous of them always being together. Meanwhile everyone is worried when Rosie, doesn’t return home with her boyfriend, and the police want to find out where she is. They try questioning him, but he won’t give any answers to where she is. Rachel is given permission to go to Australia with one police officer, but the sergeant chooses Joe. Joe and Rachel both are worried because they remember what happened last time they were alone. Also Carol decides to find her Brother, and book the same flight to Australia as Joe but she is jealous when she finds out Rachel is going as well.

Joe, Rachel and Carol set off to Australia. Joe and Rachel go off together, but don’t really get any closer as to how Rosie disappeared after trailing down, asking everywhere they think she might have stayed, but they find information about a girl just like Rosie who was blonde, who disappeared a few years ago. Meanwhile, Carol tells someone where she is staying and they steal her money because she thinks that they might know her brother so she tells them the room she’s staying in. Also Rachel doesn’t like it when everyone refers to Carol as Joe’s girlfriend, and the fact they share a room and makes it clear that Carol is not wanted, even after her being burgled prompting her to go down to the beach, and after being stung by a jellyfish, goes off to swim in a man’s house who she just met.

Meanwhile the pub’s owner makes a jockey sick in order to keep the money people have bet on him herself by giving him, and her own son, bad seafood but later Carol friend takes his place and he wins Also Carol finds her brother and after a while finds out they really get along, and they promise never to loose touch again. Rachel tries to make Joe jealous by getting closer to her other police Officer and they too promise not to loose touch. Meanwhile Joe gets jealous of Carol spending so much time with Nev who’s sisters baby she also delivered.

School trouble maker Garry Bell is giving the new teacher a hard time, so an old officer who has now became a teacher promises to sort him out and puts him in hospital. The teacher Jim, wants the new teacher to go out with him but forces himself on her after the first date. Meanwhile Garry break in and steals a gun and after Jim threatens the teacher and Gary they shoot him by accident. after a while they find out Jim is guilty and arrest him. Meanwhile the other people in the village are planning a trip to London but end up holding a funeral with the funds for a man who didn’t have any family and wouldn’t of had a proper funeral. Peggy can’t afford to go because a man she did work for won’t pay her so she tries to dump horse manure on his drive to get him to pay up. Also Joe takes a liking to the new teacher.

An accountant and his family crash into a tractor after being chased down a country lane by another car. His girlfriend may need surgery but him and his child Trudy are fine. Mason investigates but after originally thinking they were speeding he finds out that they had two books that other criminals wanted containing evidence against them and would stop at nothing for the books. Meanwhile Trudy stays at Carol’s and gets kidnapped in the night to be held for ransom but later the police and Carol get her back. Also Bernie helps David find a run down Jeep after winning £10 and finds a box of hand grenades which he thinks are peaches but later everyone is evacuated from the pub. Later he finds the hat of an ex solider, which brings a procession to town with everyone wearing their best clothes.

Rachel and Joe have a lead on a case and when they find a couple trying to break in to a woman’s home they try to arrest them. Joe gets beat up, but Rachel manages to arrest the woman. They decide to take her for further questioning elsewhere but when Rachel escorts her the man follows. Realizing it’s not safe, Joe follows them and even though the man holds Rachel at gunpoint Joe saves her, even though Geoff ends up getting shot. Rachel says she is grateful as the man was probably going to kill her. Meanwhile a woman moves in but everyone thinks she is a celebrity. David and Peggy start doing tours of her home for the public, but they later find out that she isn’t a celebrity at all. When Mrs Miller is set up for theft, even her own husband won’t believe her, so she is forced to try to clear her name. Later Geoff finds out it was a boy putting items in shopping bags.

But also her fiancée Dominick Billingham is in the picture since he had a row with her at the Aidensfield Arms the night before. PC Mason also has to take care of her son Scott, because Mason's mother was murdered too. Dawns cousin Vince intends to sell hot dogs and leaves his van in her care for a couple of days. Thus he will miss the Ashfordly Cup final which draws a lot of spectators and Dawn decides to use the opportunity to make some extra pocket money. She allies herself with David and that does not suit Aunt Peggy who has planned to sell backed potatoes during the match and as usual has "volunteered him" to lend her a hand.

Harry Brown has an accident with the steering gear of his tractor fails.PC Mason suspects sabotage, but Brown does not want any fuss. As a matter of fact he just wants the police to forget it ever happened. And with good reason too because Brown is not very popular with the other sheep farmers and most of them have it in for him. Old Mrs. Brooks has died and Aunt Peggy's solicitor Ronnie Smethers is the executor of her estate. Aunt Peggy offers her services to clear the house - at a reasonable charge of course. Of course she can't help picking out the good stuff and sell it herself. When she leaves David alone in the cottage he hears strange noises and gets afraid they have upset the old lady's ghost. Gina has hired young, handsome Billy Garrett to help out at the Aidensfield Arms while Oscar Blaketon is away on a golfing trip to Scotland, and especially Dawn feels attracted to him. He takes her out a couple of times, but suddenly he turns moody and withdrawn and does not want to see her anymore.

NOTE: A scene which went wrong, caused an accident, injuring 5 members of the cast and crew.

The Ashfordly police and especially PC Mason is asked to assist DI Turner from the serious crime squad investigating a series of very violent robberies in the area. One of DS Dawson's informants points the finger at Steve Dempsey. When Mason and Dawson check him out. They are spotted by Dawn, who is on a girls' night out with her friends, and she does not hesitate to talk about it when she gets home. Division has found out that she has had an affair with an unnamed police officer and she has been put forcibly back in uniform. But Mason does not want her to take the entire blame and turns himself in. Aunt Peggy is cleaning for the former bank manager Edward Walton - without charge for a change. - When she discovers a broom cupboard full of strange things he gets very abrupt, gives her a valuable pen for her efforts and sends her away. When Oscar Blaketon accuses her of stealing his pen she realizes that Walton has become a kleptomaniac since his wife was admitted to a nursing home and decides to help him.

The two women do not get along very well. Especially not after Josie begins to make passes at David and threatens Aunt Peggys influence on him.

There has been three break-ins within a week already and the forth item on the burglars' "shopping list" is the Aidensfield Arms. Nothing but money was taken, and the police are without a clue until Aunt Peggy and other old people receive an anonymous envelope with 20 pounds each. Money that comes from the break-ins. Furthermore Carol Cassidy saw a car in Aidensfield at the time of the break-in at the pub with a man and a woman in it. PC Mason readily admits that he was the man, but to Carol's great annoyance he does not say anything about who the woman was. Douglas Philpot asks Oscar Blaketon and Alf Ventress to look for his son Ian, whom he and his wife Mary have not heard from for three months. A colleague of his also saw him at a night club in Whitby, but that is all. The two sleuths have a feeling though that Mary Philpot knows more than she is willing to say with her husband present.

PC Younger arrests the tramp Ewart Martin and when puts him in the nick Martin immediately recognizes his old war buddy Sergeant Miller who is none too pleased to see him. Among Martin's things Younger finds a business card from Leslie Rumbold, an insurance agent who was shot dead on his doorstep the same morning. Has the old tramp anything to do with the [...]? Or is the perpetrator Ross Tillman, a farmer who has threatened Rumbold on his life? Another clue may be a photograph that PC Mason finds at Rumbold's office. Alf Ventress moves in at the Aidensfield Arms when his chimney goes through the roof and he needs a place to stay during repairs. Gina says he can stay for free and soon he is eating her and Oscar out of house and pub. And that is just for starters. No wonder Mrs. Ventress preferred to stay at her sister's instead. PC Wetherby has had his family staying for a couple of days, and when chances are he and his estranged wife may get back together again he asks Gina for advice. But Oscar Blaketon misunderstands and thinks Wetherby is making a pass on her again.

An unidentified man is found badly injured by the roadside near Aidensfield and PC Mason thinks he was assaulted. A complaint about a van blocking the way in Back Lane leads not only to the identity of the unknown man, but also to a load of condemned meat which has now disappeared. And soon they have the first case of salmonella poisoning. Aunt Peggy is asked to keep an eye on a mansion for three weeks. And being Aunt Peggy she cannot see why she should not make a little extra money on it herself and do some bed and breakfast in posh surroundings. Her first customer is a very surprised Alf Ventress. He had outstayed his welcome at the Aidensfield Arms - and one of the cells at the police station - and was asked to move out by Sergeant Nokes, who is filling in for Sergeant Miller. Alice Howarth asks Nurse Cassidy to look after her mother Edna who is so old it is not safe for her to be living alone anymore. But Carol is surprised to discover that the old lady is not so alone after all. Her son - Alice's brother - has returned to the area and visits her every night. Only he committed [...] twenty years ago. Dawn finds an old sewing machine and soon the only thing on her mind is sewing.

Safe breakers break in at Adams Brtohers. One of the accidentally activates the alarm just as PC Mason passes on his motorbike. They manage to get away, but the next day their driver is found floating around dead in Whitby harbour. Is this the revenge of his accomplices for leaving them when the alarm went off or...? PC Mason also suspects it was an inside job because there was an exceptionally large amount of money in the safe. Meanwhile the rest of the gang stays comfortably at the Aidensfield Arms planning how to get another crack at the safe. It is Dawns birthday and Gina organizes a surprise party for her. But Dawn is not the only one who gets surprised. Alf and PC Younger wonders why PC Wetherby disappears every day at lunch break and Oscar Blaketon bets them 5£ that he can find out in a matter of hours. He gets a surprise too.

A mysterious man steels David's taxi (and his breakfast). He does not get very far though when Bernie recognizes the car and refuses to give him some petrol and is soon apprehended. He has obviously been in a fight because his face i bruised, and he claims he cannot remember who he is. Nurse Cassidy takes care of his injuries while PC Mason is called out to assist Sergeant Miller. A dead woman has been found at the foot of a rock and Miller agrees with PC Mason that the two cases are connected. Alf Ventress and Oscar Blaketon are planning a camping trip to France to see all the places they passed through during the war - on push bikes! They get a few tips from James Moncrieff, a fellow war veteran who is on holiday in Aidensfield.
