MediaCorp Channel 8's television series 118 is a socio-drama series produced by MediaCorp Singapore in 2014. The story is set against the backdrop of a coffeeshop in Tiong Bahru, offering a light-hearted social commentary on current topics with relatable characters and incidents.
It is currently airing on MediaCorp Channel 8 in Singapore from 20 October 2014 and will run until July 2015.

ShortSummary= Hong Daming (Chew Chor Meng) grew up in Tiong Bahru and remained there as an adult, starting a business in the neighbourhood. It is his 25th wedding anniversary. With his wife, Liu Meimei (Pan Lingling), he reminisces AbOUT his life. Meimei is the paranoid sort. When she learns there May Be a water shortage as a result of the dry spell, she buys empty bottles to STOCK up on water. The Hongs have a pair of biological children, Jinzhi (Ya Hui) and Shunshui (Xu Bin), and a pair of adopted children, Shunfeng (Dennis Chew) and Yuye (Somaline Ang). Shunfeng is a little silly and tells Meimei no girl would want to marry a man like him, even though he has some savings. Daming and Meimei share a room with their four children. Meimei feels awkward when her children let her and Daming have the room for the night. Meimei is woken up by a loud sound. She urges Daming to check out their coffeeshop downstairs. |

He even uses crushed pineapple as a face mask. Jinzhi asks Shunfeng to buy her a present, as he has more than $10,000 in the bank. He readily agrees, and brags that he is rich. Daming starts business at his coffeeshop, 118. Steven (Ye Shipin), who has just been discharged from hospital, turns up and moans about having kidney disease. When he laments that he would rather die, Daming consoles him. Meimei urges Daming to watch his diet, so as to ward off kidney disease. In the coffeeshop, she finds to her bewilderment that two eggs were missing. The washed cups are wet, too. Yuye makes a beeline for the toilet and is in for a rude shock. |

Daming tells the agent to give up, as he will not persuade anyone to move out. Steven is persistent as he needs money urgently. Liang develops an allergic reaction to the pineapple mask. He covers his head and stops anyone trying to photograph him or his rice dumpling stall. He does not even want free advertising for his stall. Daming likes to go to the hawker centre after he closes shop. While there, he sings as the fancy strikes him. Qing, a cleaner, puts an empty tissue box in front of him. A woman puts money into the box. When she discovers Daming is not blind, she calls him a trickster. A mysterious man turns up when Shunfeng is washing the toilet in the shop. |

She accuses Qing, a foreign worker, of being in cahoots with Daming and berates her for upsetting the social harmony. Peeved, Daming speaks up for her, but the woman insists on calling the police. Zhang Meiyou (Roy Li) threatens to reveal the truth behind the deaths of Shunfeng’s parents and let due punishment fall on Daming, unless Shunfeng gives him $5,000. He does not fall for the scam, and Meiyou leaves empty-handed. Meimei’s sister, Jiejie (Liu Lingling), and her husband, Tiancheng (Chen Tianwen), turn up for a loan. Meimei, who has given Tiancheng lots of money, decides not to help anymore. He flares up and refuses to leave. Liang decides to teach Tiancheng a lesson. Shunfeng learns Daming is at the police station and assumes Meiyou really did call the police. Meiyou grabs the chance to extort money from him. |

Jinzhi assumes he wants money to buy a present for their parents. Qing apologises to Daming when the police are involved in the argument regarding the tissue box. Daming is not offended, and consoles her. Tiancheng turns back when he meets Daming along the way. Daming makes Meimei take out their emergency fund to help Jiejie and Tiancheng. Sensing something amiss, Jinzhi looks for Shunfeng. She sees him giving Meiyou $2000. Liang tries to knock Meiyou out, but in the end gets hurt and Meiyou escapes. Daming is exasperated when Shunfeng refuses to reveal why Meiyou had blackmailed him. Daming and Meimei are disturbed when Liang identifies the conman as Zhang Meiyou, a getai singer from the past. |

Retro being the in thing, the dress looks fashionable and his talent impresses everyone. Jinzhi visits Granny Egg (Hong Damu) and explains the Pioneer Package to her. She also agrees to visit Granny Egg’s friends with her. Hua-sao likes Liang, and tries to get close to him. Daming’s help comes to nought when Liang rejects Hua-sao outright. Jinzhi senses that Liang must have a secret he cannot tell others, which is why he refuses to fall for anyone. Liang panics and wants to close down his stall when he discovers a magazine has introduced his rice dumplings. Granny Egg asks to go to Orchard Road. Jinzhi worries, as she hasn’t been there since Primary Six. |

ShortSummary= Jinzhi hits the so-called thief, Rascal (Charles Lee), and snatches his mobile phone. She then realises Granny Egg had merely lent her phone to someone and it has been returned. She tries to find the guy she hit to apologise and return his phone, but he is nowhere to be seen. Liang worries about the article. He tells Jinzhi that 20 years ago, he left his girlfriend to make a name for himself in the French fashion industry. He failed and returned to Singapore penniless, and became hooked on drugs. So as not to be a burden, he told his girlfriend that he was a success in France, and would marry a French girl and never return. Though he pulled himself together with Meimei’s encouragement and started selling rice dumplings, he does not want his ex-girlfriend to find him. He cannot face her, and he does not want his image to be destroyed either. Jinzhi promises to help. Meiyou loses all the money he took from Shunfeng and returns to 118. He hides when Daming appears, but is almost discovered when some pepper fell on him. |

ShortSummary= Ada (Chloe Wang) tells Shunshui she wants to test-drive the car now, but he has to change his name from "Simon" to "Water". Shunshui gives in for the sake of money. At the market, Shunfeng notices Meiyou taking Granny Egg’s money and hits him with a lotus root. Granny Egg refuses to call the police. She reveals Meiyou is her unfilial son. Daming and Meimei worry when Shunfeng tells them Meiyou was at the market. Jiejie calls to tell Meimei bank officers are about to repossess the house and Tiancheng is nowhere to be found. Tiancheng, who is in bed with another woman, scolds Jiejie for letting the bank officers enter the house. Shunshui throws up when Ada speeds around turns. Daming overhears her sneering at Shunshui and advises her to treasure life. Ada senses Shunshui’s family’s concern for him. She leaves a US$200 tip, but Daming tells Shunshui to return it. Tiancheng takes Jiejie and their son, Zhenhui (Nick Teo), to Zhang Keke (Dawn Yeoh), his daughter with his ex-wife. |

ShortSummary= Keke, who is busy handling customers on investment issues, rushes home upon receiving a call from the security guard of her block. She refuses to take Tiancheng in. It was her mother and grandmother who had raised her, and she feels no sense of obligation to him. Refusing to leave, he promises to move out when he has found a place to stay. When Keke has left the house, Tiancheng messes everything up and scolds Jiejie when she nags him. Meimei senses that someone has been eating and drinking for free in the shop. Daming decides to investigate. Jinzhi is about to shut the shop for the day when she notices a child sitting alone. The girl is Viveka (Sun Yi En), daughter of Meimei’s paternal aunt, Hong Shanshan. Daming scolds Viveka’s father for letting the girl take the bus alone to the coffeeshop. Daming and Meimei lay in ambush at the shop. Liang comes down to get ice for his fever and mentions how Meimei was pregnant before she got married all those years ago. |

Daming admonishes Shunshui for accumulating credit card debt and not planning for his future. Shunshui claims his money has all been invested. Ada calls to say she hopes to drink 118’s coffee before she leaves Singapore. Shunshui asserts that the shop is closed and she can try it next time. He is stunned when Ada accepts Daming’s invitation to dinner at home. Ada has a good time at dinner with the Hongs, and even had three bowls of rice. Shunshui is taken aback when she suddenly kisses him. Meimei loses sleep over Jiejie and is reminded of their getai days when they were children. |

ShortSummary= Tiancheng and Ah Niang quarrel as Ah Niang refuses to give a dumpling to him. The "coupon lady" arrives and all the customers rush out. An accident happened, Tiancheng accuses an elderly man for hitting his car as soon as Ah Niang, Shunfeng and Shunshui arrive at the scene. Tiancheng demands the man to compensate for the damage. Ah Niang gave Tiancheng a lecture, but the latter complained of having breathing difficulties as a result of the damage. As Ah Niang brings the man to the clinic, Tiancheng approaches him and touches his back, which infuriates the former. Shunshui adds fuel to the fire by taking two photos of the tussle, and uploading it to social media, garnering 360 likes. As Ah Niang and Tiancheng try to stop him from taking more, Shunfeng has a 4D number in his mind, "1010", dispersing the crowd. It was later revealed that the elderly man is actually a karang guni man. |

ShortSummary= Yuye arranges Jinzhi for matchmaking to see which boyfriend suits her. The first candidate, a conventional CEO, tells her he minds her "inner beauty", and gets chased out by Shunfeng who interprets it as Jinzhi's undergarments. The second candidate is a promoter who wants to sell his products to Jinzhi, and has nothing to do with matchmaking, so he, together with his products, gets chased out by Shunfeng. The third candidate, a mummy's boy professor, who is making a phone call to his mum, gets chased out when he takes a photo of Shunfeng, Yuye and Meimei's buttocks. The fourth candidate, a cleanliness-freak image stylist, wants everything of Jinzhi to change, who could tolerate no longer and chases him out. The fifth candidate arrives at that time. Meimei ends up matchmaking with the candidate, who likes mature women. |
