Lienzo (company)
Lienzo is a Mexican video game company, founded in Chihuahua in 2012. They are best known for releases such as Mulaka and Aztech: Forgotten Gods.
History
Lienzo was founded in 2012 by Edgar Daniel Serrano Rivera and Adolfo Rico. Their goal is to compete with video game companies from Japan, the United States, and Europe. They are a private company with locations in Chihuahua and Mexico City. Most of their games are marketed towards global audiences with inspiration from Mexican or Aztec mythology. The Developers kickstarted their careers by developing games for museums and contracts for advergaming brands.
Hunter's Legacy
The first game developed by Lienzo, Hunter's Legacy was released on July 16, 2016 for the Windows PC, Mac, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4. It is a 2D Metroidvania. In the game you play as Ikki, an anthropomorphic cat who is a huntress with magical abilities from Un'Amak. Her goal is to save the kingdom of Iripur from the evil Morodir.
Mulaka
Mulaka was first released on February 27, 2018. It is a 3D action-adventure game inspired by the indigenous Tarahumara tribe of northern Mexico. The player plays as a Tarahumara shaman named Sukurúame who must draw upon the powers of demigods. You must solve puzzles and battle creatures pulled from the region's mythology to finally restore peace to the land.
The game received mixed to positive reviews, with some people praising its graphics, music, and worldbuilding, but others criticized its length and repetitive combat. It is available for the Windows PC, Mac, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch.
Hunter's Legacy: Purrfect Edition
On December 13, 2018, an expanded version of Hunter's Legacy was released for the Nintendo Switch. This version features new story sequences, expanded character dialogue, new animations, an updated level design, a brand new mini-map feature, improved melee combat, and a game plus mode.
Aztech: Forgotten Gods
Aztech: Forgotten Gods is a futuristic 3D action-adventure platformer that stars Achtli, a young woman who battles the colossal Forgotten Gods. To uncover the truth behind the world she lives in, she must turn the Gods' power against them by using an ancient artifact called the Lightkeeper, a mechanical gauntlet of sorts that allows Achtli to fly through the air and also enables her to communicate with the mysterious Feathered Serpent, an ancient Mesoamerican god tied to the Lightkeeper. Together she must defend her homeland from giant malevolent gods who are trying to destroy it. Originally slated for a 2021 release, the game was delayed to March 10, 2022. It was released for the Windows PC, Mac, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch and received mostly positive reviews.
