Leigh Walker

Leigh Walker (born February 27, 1981 in Sheffield, England) is a professional footballer, currently playing for Conference North side Tamworth, where he plays as a goalkeeper.

Playing career

Sheffield United

Walker began his professional career with Sheffield United as a trainee, but with the likes of Alan Kelly and Simon Tracey playing in the first team, Walker left the club after two whole years without making a single first team appearance.

Barnsley

Walker remained in the yorkshire area and signed for Barnsley in the summer of 2000. However, he again failed to break into the first team, and was released at the end of the 2000/01 season.

South Normanton Athletic

He then had a brief spell with South Normanton Athletic.

Wakefield & Emley

His next move was joining Wakefield & Emley. Walker spent just under one year with the club before moving on again.

Stalybridge Celtic

This time Stalybridge Celtic was his destination, where he moved in January 2002 where he remained until the end of the 2001/02 season.

Scarborough

On June 27, 2002 Leigh Walker joined Scarborough, initially as backup for Andy Woods.

He made his debut on October 22, 2002 in the LDV Vans Trophy against Doncaster Rovers. He established a first team place after an injury to Adam Sollitt and made over 100 appearances and played in the FA Cup match against Chelsea.

However, he eventually lost his place to Ian Dunbavin and was released at the end of the 2005/06 season.

Grantham Town

Walker's next move was to join Grantham Town.

His time with the club won't be remembered to fondly by the Grantham Town supporters after Walker refused to play in a match after an incident just an hour before kick-off, despite being the only goalkeeper at the club. Walker had heard rumours that the club were intending to sign a second goalkeeper to strengthen the squad. Confronting the manager with the information an hour before the league match against Ilkeston Town, he was informed the rumours were true. In protest, Walker then refused to play in the forthcoming match. As a result, the club had to field an outfield player in goal, and went on to lose 4-0.

Sutton Town

Unsurprisingly Walker soon left the club and joined his former Scarborough team mate Jason Blunt at Sutton Town.

Following the sacking of Jason Blunt from Sutton Town, Walker wasn't far behind leaving the club in search of another challenge.

Tamworth

Walker had been trialing with Conference North side Tamworth following Dave Clarke rejoining Gresley Rovers on non-contract terms and Ashley Timms also leaving the club.

Walker impressed during the trial with the club and signed on non-contract terms, he is currently understudy to José Veiga.
