Laurens Postma

Laurens Postma is a Film Director and Producer who has spent the last twenty-five years directing and producing features, television dramas and series around the world . His latest feature EXITZ starring Malcolm McDowell was shown in Cannes in 2007. His television feature BUSKER'S ODYSSEY for Channel Four Films was selected as a Film Network Christmas special. For Film on Four, Laurens wrote and directed the feature film MIDNIGHT BREAKS, a political drama set in London's music world starring Robbie Coltrane, Big Audio Dynamite's Don Letts and Toyah Willcox. Laurens is presently writing a new feature "In Between Twins" and in pre-production on his next feature “Interview” a thriller based in Mumbai. Released THE JOURNEY, a five part drama series shot on location in London and Taiwan. Laurens directed HEROD'S CHRISTMAS for the BBC, a five part series shot on location in Israel starring Tony Robertson which won the St. Martin Award. In addition to his feature and television work Laurens has traveled the world directing and producing films and series for various Networks. Among his award-winning films are DEREK JARMAN, YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN..., honoured by the Cork Film Festival, and HEAVEN, MAN, EARTH, an award winner at Italy's Festival Dei Popolei. The JOURNEY won the Gold at the Warsaw Film Festival. In 1979 he formed his own film company, YoYo Films, with producer Phillip Bartlett. Over the years YoYo Films has become a consistent independent suppliers of television programming to the UK and Foreign Networks. In 1996 Laurens set up YoYoSA based in Johannesburg, which is supplying the SABC. From 2001-2003 Laurens was Senior Vice President Production for Kaleidoscope Film Entertainment Ltd, based in Mumbai, producing films a.o. MacBool, American Daylight and The Rising.

In addition to his Television and Feature Film work, Laurens remains active in the theatre, where he made his start as an actor. He directed and produced FILM FILM FILM, an adaptation of King Lear, that was staged in London's West End Bernard Shaw Theatre. Laurens recently staged Sholom Aleichem's, Now you are Talking at the New End Theatre, London. He is an Associated Director of the Bridge Lane Theatre. Laurens read Literature and Drama at the University of Amsterdam and in the early 70's moved to England where he graduated from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and later the London International Film School. Laurens has a BA (Hon) in Fine Arts and is writing his MA dissertation on the films of David Cronenberg. He lives in London, Jo'burg and Mumbai with his wife and three children.

Next to his films Lauren's paintings, sculptures and video installations have been exhibited in Europe and the Far East. Amongst others at Studio 5, The Royal Festival Hall and the S&D Galleries in London. In the autumn of '09 his work was part of the "Diamond Geezers" and the "Disaster" Exhibitions at the Fresh Galleries in London. In November the "Indian Thoughts" exhibition at the Hiriyom Gallery in Kerala, India. Laurens exhibition "Dot Dot 002YK" was the Millennium Show at the Brixton Art Gallery. "Sensus" in London at the S+ Gallery was during March. The Global on Golden Square, Soho, saw Laurens his latest London exhibition. Laurens his next exhibition will be at the Habitat Cultural Centre Gallery in New Delhi, India in November. His work is in private collections in America, Europe and the Far East. He is one of the directors of Light and Arts who run the Sun and Doves Galleries in London. Laurens is a founder-member of the Chitraniketan and the Kala Bhavanam Art Residencies and Art Gallery in Southern India. Its aim to promote the exchange of ideas and artists between the continents.
