Krav Maga Survival
Krav Maga Survival is a modern Krav Maga (Close combat/Self-defense) Solution. Krav Maga Survival builds on existing Krav Maga systems and continuous evolution inspired by Hisardut, Kyokushin Karate, Mixed martial arts and the experience from the founders of Krav Maga Survival, The Martial Arts Masters functioning as technical advisors, input from the instructors, students and external seminars. Krav Maga Survival actively uses the idea of Tactical Survival Training. The Krav Maga Survival Solution builds on exchange of techniques and knowledge and by learning from other Close Combat solutions. The Krav Maga Survival Solution only consists of “stand-up” Close Combat at the student level. The Solution builds on the “KISS” doctrine ( ”Keep It Simple – Stupid”) and must always be very simple to perform. The aim is to give the student an effective self defense and active combat solution within a very short period of time.
History
Inspiration
The founders of Krav Maga Survival Shihan Tom ”Taiyo” Madsen (6. Dan Krav Maga Survival and 6. Dan IBK Kyokushin) and Shihan Glenn Jordeim (5. Dan Krav Maga Survival and 5. Dan IBK Kyokushin) originally trained under the Israeli Kancho Raffi Liven (10. Dan and founder of Krav Maga Liven International and 9. Dan IBK Kyokushin). The Krav Maga Survival organization does not have any affiliation with Krav Maga Liven International today.
The Krav Maga Survival Solution was founded in recognition to the Israeli masters who came up with excellent ideas and used their experience to create a successful system which presented itself as a tool for their target group. With Krav Maga as the foundation and the merger of techniques from other well functioning systems the Krav Maga Survival Solution materialized.
The Krav Maga Survival Solution builds on the experience of Kancho Raffi Liven and significant inspiration by the Israeli Grandmasters Kaicho Dr. Dennis Hanover (founder of Dennis-Hisardut (Survival)) and Kancho Gadi Scornik (founder of Gadi Kenpo). Krav Maga Survival has incorporated techniques from a range of Israeli Grandmasters, elite units around the world and other Masters such as Kaicho Jon Bluming (IBK Kyokushin), Kancho Henk Kuipers (IBK Kyokushin), Gokor Chivichyan, Gene Lebell, Alfred Gehlen, Mihran Aghvinian and many more.
Establishing
The cornerstones of Krav Maga Survival were laid in 2005 and a basic thought was to make techniques law-conform (legal). This means that, besides the usual Krav Maga techniques, Krav Maga Survival is building a Solution which uses "Proportional use of force". The Krav Maga Survival Solution approach is the appropriate behavior and a proportional reaction to a given assault taking into consideration the dangerousness of the assault and the assailant. The Krav Maga Survival organization became a reality in April 2006.
Tactical Survival Training is an integrated part of the Krav Maga Survival Solution, which gives the student the idea of always having a plan before a potential dangerous situation arises and how to avoid potential dangerous situations. The goal of the Krav Maga Survival Solution is a continuous evolution of the best Solution under the terms of reality based, easy to learn Close Combat/ Self Defense for professionals and civilian practitioners.
Concept
Focus
The practical training in Krav Maga Survival actively utilizes Knock Down fighting from Kyokushin Karate and traditional Boxing as a tool to acquire the right movement and the ability to withstand the physical and psychological stress in a Close Combat situation.
Krav Maga Survival teaches Strategy and Tactic against one or more opponents in different situations and changing environments (e.g. car, bus, elevator, office, bar, plane, demonstrations) The Krav Maga Survival Basic Solution is based on stand-up fighting techniques. Ground fighting is a part of the Instructor and Master Solution.
The focus on stand-up fighting techniques is due to the reality that ground fighting in a situation without rules and more opponents can be extremely dangerous even against “small” opponents. Even a “light” opponent could kick you in the head with fatal consequences or use simple weapons such as stones or ashtrays when you are immobile on the ground without being able to realize the severity of the situation and counter it. Furthermore police and military are not “dressed” for ground fighting. Their equipment makes it almost impossible to move and roll around on the ground without suffering injury. Therefore it is essential for the student to learn to withstand an opponent who tries to bring the fight to the ground.
The Krav Maga Survival student will learn and receive knowledge about:
- Knowledge of target points for optimal impact
- Knowledge of recognizing critical situations
- Fighting under extreme pressure
- Positioning, timing and fighting experience
- Response to extreme stress
- Self defense - “Hagana Atsmit”
- Situation control
Solution
The Krav Maga Survival Solution consists of a number of simple specified techniques; stances, blocks, punches, kicks, locks and Takedown (grappling). Further techniques are among others; head butts, eye poke, biting, scratching, small joint manipulation, extreme holds.
The Solution builds on the “KISS” doctrine and must always be simple to perform. The goal is for the student to acquire an effective self defense and active close combat Solution within a short period of time and to build a student who is mentally and physically prepared to encounter a potential dangerous situation and if necessary actively engage in close combat well prepared with tools to solve critical situations both as a civilian and as a professional.
All techniques are based on natural reactions and lead to optimal finish with control. All techniques are trained again and again to promote and secure the right response in a stressful situation.
Any technique that is not effective or doubted upon by the technical commission, the Krav Maga Survival Black belt (martial arts) Masters will not be a part of the official syllabus of the Krav Maga Survival Solution.
Instructors and Masters are schooled in managing and disarming various knives, guns and striking weapons. Control with Baton (law enforcement) and handcuffs is included.
Krav Maga Survival has a belt grading system whereby the students can see how far they are in their education and keep motivation. This also allows the instructor to know exactly how far the student can be pushed to optimize the student’s training.
The Solution is NOT based on hoping for pity from an opponent, but will force you to take the lead and create your own opportunity for victory.
