About Organisation
The Organisation formally established on 29 October 1994 in Darjeeling, West Bengal, following the Kirat Utsav held at Darjeeling Town Hall from 27–29 October 1994. Founded by Rai scholars, cultural activists, and community leaders, KKRSS aims to preserve and promote Kirati Khambu Rai identity, Rai languages, Mundum traditions, customs, folklore, literature, and indigenous heritage. Through a district-wide membership campaign, it developed a representative organizational structure across the Darjeeling Hills. Since its inception, KKRSS has organized Yeledong (Kirati New Year), Ubhauli and Udhauli Sakela festivals, cultural seminars, language classes, youth and women's programmes, publications, and research on Rai history and culture. The organization also supports documentation of indigenous knowledge and has contributed to awareness and advocacy concerning the Khambu Rai community's cultural identity and recognition in India.
