Karl Martens

Karl Martens (born July 12,1989 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada) is a German-Canadian Semi-professional footballer with A.F.C. Tubize, a first division team in Belgium. Martens has trained with the club for a few months. He has been good as a keeper for the club.

Career

Prior to joining A.F.C. Tubize, Martens served his duties to an amateur soccer club Hellas S.C. in Winnipeg, Manitoba, where he was discovered by KV Mechelen, another team in Belgium where he trained in until May 2008. At only age 18, he played 10 games with a Goals Against Average of 0.8 a game for Hellas S.C..

Canada

2004 was the starting goalie for Phoenix FC 15U. League Champions, Playoff Finalists and indoor soccer league Champions and in 2003 played with the Phoenix FC 14U. MSA Cup finalists.

Martens was 2005 first choice keeper and Captain for Phoenix FC 16U outdoor team. Leadership and skills helped lead this team to a very successful season which included Manitoba Golden Boy Tournament, 1st Place in Premier League, Playoff Champions and MSA Cup which gave the team a bid to play in the National Premier Tournament in Newfoundland. He was also Starting Keeper for the Manitoba (Canada) Provincial team. Participated in the national championship tournament in Quebec, named Goalie of the Tournament for Mini World Cup.

He was the Starting Keeper for Hellas Soccer Club in the men’s premier division of Manitoba. Won the Chicago Tournament and Manitoba Soccer Association Cup semi finalist in 2007 and Starting Keeper for the Phoenix FC indoor team (18U), League and challenge cup champions. Martens was Captain and starting Keeper of River East Collegiate soccer team. Won the City and (Won in a shoot out, made 3 saves) and Provincial championships, named MVP of the Provincial Championship.

In 2006 was the Starting Keeper for Phoenix FC 16U (indoor soccer), Challenge Cup Finalists, was first goalie for Phoenix FC 18U and League Cup champions.

Belgium

In 2006 went to Belgium for 3 weeks, trained with a 2nd division team Oud-Heverlee Leuven and had a trial with a first division team FC Molenbeek Brussels Strombeek.

He signed as a free agent with KV Mechelen1 in January, 2008, and is currently training as the 3rd goaltender for A.F.C. Tubize under affiliation contract. 2 Here played his first game on 15 December 2008 against R.A.E.C. Mons.

College Career

Martens attended River East Collegiate, a High school in Winnipeg, from 2005-2008 completing all major credits before making the decision to jump to the big leagues.

He is the son of Armin and Denise Martens and resides in Brussels, Belgium.
