Kalpana Joshi
Dr Kalpana S. Joshi is Vice President at Department Of Pharmacology at Piramal Life Sciences India Limited, Goregaon, Mumbai INDIA. She leads the cancer [...] discovery program intended to generate target specific inhibitors like small molecules and natural phyto compounds aiming at several solid and disseminate tumors. Her lab is equipped with state-of-the-art technology for screening, lead optimizing and in-vivo preclinical efficacy testing platform, with core-competent team of experts. Among a few of her successful program is a identification of New Chemical Entity (NCE) probing against cyclin-dependant-kinase-4 (Cdk4) inhibitor P276-00 which is one among the first India’s indigenously developed small molecule presently under clinical evaluation for certain solid tumors and multiple myeloma. Also one more success story is development of a phytocompound NBP001-056 which acts by inhibiting specifically BCR-ABL positive cells; moreover this compound has an added advantage of inhibiting the most crucial gleevec resistant mutated forms of BCR-ABL.
Dr Kalpana Joshi holds a degree of PhD from Cancer Research Institute (CRI)Mumbai, and worked extensively thereafter for nearly 20 years in the field of cancer biology in various national and international laboratories. Her major concern of research is focusing on cancer specific target and inhibiting those using small molecules and natural compounds. She has published papers in the field of cancer [...] discovery and owes several international NCE patents. She has been awarded with many prestigious awards a few of them are the rotary and the Hirkani award.
