Jupiter's Clan
Jupiter's Clan are fictional characters in the The Hills Have Eyes films.
They are portrayed as a band of murderous cannibals who prey on the films' protagonists. In later films, they are portrayed as mutants. It is also implied that there is extensive [...] abuse and inbreeding between the family's members.
Clan Members
Jupiter
Jupiter is the leader of the clan. He is the son of the owner of the gas station Fred's Oasis. He was violent and cruel even as a child; he eventually killed both his sister and his mother. Afterward, his father smashed him in the face with a pipe, severely scarring his face, and left him in the desert to die. Unfortunately, he thrived there, and mated with a runaway [...], Mama, who gave birth to three sons and a daughter: Mars, Mercury, Pluto and Ruby. It has been implied that Jupiter has molested Ruby in the past and probably continues to do so. In the original film, he takes his vengeance on his father for trying to kill him, and nails Bob Carter to a tree, lighting him on fire. Bobby Carter and his sister Brenda attempt to kill him by dragging him through the desert, but fail. They eventually kill him by rigging a trap in their trailer that would cause an explosion.
Mars
Mars is, besides Jupiter, the most vicious and brutal of the clan. He is GeneRally close to the ground, and relatively lean, and his teeth are sharp. He is Jupiter's eldest son. In the film, he molests Brenda, shoots Lynne and her mother, and, after attempting to slaughter the baby, Catherine, is stabbed to death by Doug after a battle in the hills.
Mars was replaced by Lizard in the 2006 remake.
Pluto
Pluto is Jupiter's son, and appears to be unintelligent, doing everything his father tells him. He rarely speaks and is incredibly strong and tall. In the original film, Pluto tries to [...] Brenda,. The next day, he appears to be killed by the Carters' dog. He makes an appearance in the sequel and teams up with his uncle, Reaper.
Ruby
Ruby is the most sympathetic of the family, constantly trying to help people in trouble and going so far as to try and save Baby Catherine from Mars. She has suffered extensive abuse at her parent's hands, being molested by Jupiter and called a [...] by Mama. She wears clothing made from animal skins, like the rest of the family, and shows remorse when she must eat one of the Carter's dogs. In the film, she takes the Carter's baby into the hills to avoid having her being killed by Mars. She throws a venomous snake onto Mars, and watches as Doug stabs him.
In The Hills Have Eyes Part II, Ruby has been adopted into what remains of the Carter family and is renamed Rachel. She goes on a motorcycle trip with Doug and his friends. she dies when her head is slammed against a rock.
Mama
Mama is the mother of Mars, Pluto, Mercury and Ruby. She is a prostitute who ran into the desert and met up with Jupiter, eventually having children with him. She is grossly obese, doing little and having her needs served to her by her children. She does very little in the movie, but is not killed.
Mercury
Mercury is small and insane, adorned with animal skins to a ridiculous (and comical) extent. He was played by the film's producer, Peter Locke. He does not talk much throughout the span of the film, but Mama describes him as difficult to believe (referencing something he said AbOUT the Carters' Station Wagon). He is eventually killed by one of the Carter's dogs.
He was replaced by Goggle in the 2006 remake.
Reaper
Reaper is the uncle of Pluto, Mars, Mercury and Ruby, though his relation to Jupiter is never explained; aside from Jupiter and his sister, Jupiter's father, Fred, never states he has had other children. Reaper appears in The Hills Have Eyes Part II, which has him teaming up with Pluto to kill a traveling group of motocross racers in the desert, Doug and Ruby (renamed Rachel) among them. Reaper is eventually killed in an elaborate bus explosion orchestrated by Doug.
