Jose Tovar

Jose Tovar (born 14 April, 1984) is an American radio host and stage actor. His radio works include The Pregame Show, on Alfred State College radio station WETD, and an upcoming show on WBEA. Jose has also performed on stage in school-related and local theatre productions.

Early life

Tovar was born as Jose Tovar in Greater Napanee, Ontario, Canada to Wilma Alvarez, a Guatemalan business owner, and Noe Tovar, the owner of a landscape company. At the age of four, Tovar's family moved to Los Angeles, California. In 1989, the family once again moved, this time to East Hampton, NY, where he attended Springs School and then the East Hampton High School. After graduating high school, he went on to Alfred State College, where he earned degrees in web development and business administration.

Career

Though he is currently in radio, his life in music began in high school, where he played bass guitar in a band called Genre Unknown. He also appeared in small roles in Crazy For You and Bali Hai. At age eighteen he was cast as a DJ during his first college semester. Due to academics, he was forced to focus on grades rather than his show. It wasn't until the fall of 2006 that he returned to radio. Jose also appeared in the production of Li'l Abner, in the Spring of 2007. In 2008, he briefly moved to Raleigh, NC, to work for an Internet firm. During during this time, Tovar began performing stand up comedy at area clubs; primarily at Goodnight's Comedy Club.. He used his comedy recordings as his air track for his radio job.

Personal life

Tovar is proud of his Canadian heritage and considers Canada his favorite place in the world. He said and demonstrated his ability to speak fluent Spanish and also Portuguese on an appearance on his radio show, and also on his LiveJournal page. He has also been seen doing American Sign Language.

Tovar began a relationship with Audrey Morew in early 2009 but in late October of 2009, it was announced that the couple had split. Jose's rep confirmed their breakup on his Facebook fan page. "Yes, it's true. [Jose and Audrey] have broken up. Though they care AbOUT each other, he is here and she is in Germany."

Jose lives in East Hampton, NY, and is currently the head of the IT department at the Montauk Yacht Club.
