Jonathan Brooker
Jonathan Brooker is a British humanitarian and writer. Currently working with the United Nations in Pakistan, Brooker is responsible for the preparedness and strategic planning of humanitarian assistance. In previous roles he has led humanitarian responses in Darfur, Lebanon, Chad, and Pakistan. He has also advised human rights organizations in the United States and the United Kingdom on issues including asylum seeking, torture, arbitrary detention, crimes against humanity, [...] and war crimes.
As a writer and journalist he has worked with the New York Times, the Daily Telegraph, the Sunday Telegraph, Independent, the Independent on Sunday, the Epoch Times and Reuters Alertnet.
Brooker has contributed on the ground in a number of countries by highlighting and responding to large-scale human rights abuses being.
Brooker says the motivation for what he does comes from a belief that every person can do more to help others and from a realization that he should be more proactive in trying to help people and bring people together. This realization came after being located in New York and witnessing the September 11th [...] attacks on the World Trade Center.
Educated at Cheltenham College, he won the Duleepsinghi Scholarship for leadership and sporting excellence. Brooker later studied Theology at Westminister College in Oxford where he obtained an Oxford University validated Bachelor in Theology degree, and represented the Oxford University Combined Team cricket team and won a first class cricket cap. Brooker also represented his college in Rugby Union and the Oxford University Rugby League team. Brooker is recognized as a talented cricketer and represented Gloucestershire and Warwickshire county cricket teams at under-17 and under-19 levels, and played Birmingham League cricket for Stratford-upon-Avon.
Brooker obtained a Masters in International Law from the School of Oriental and African Studies in London in 2010.
In 2013 Jonathan Brooker married Abigail Chatagnon in France, her native country. The couple have a son named Jack Brooker born 11 September 2013.
