John Xuna
John "Juan" Xuna (Born November 10, 1948) is a Spanish born polyglot American Engineer and Scientist. Juan ran for congress in the 2002 Florida District 22 and received the most votes for a non-affiliated party in Miami/Broward History, and the only Spaniard-born who has ever attained to that high legislative office in Federal Government. He has recommended governments and advised press on possible significant advancements in fossil fuel science and development of alternative energy technologies to alleviate global warming.
Early life
Born in Vigo, Spain, Xuna enlisted into the Spanish Military and served in the Military Police Unit the early part of his life. After the military, he traveled the world studying and in the process learning 8 languages. He earned several degrees in BSEE (Electronics), MSTE (Telecom), MBA (Accounting), AIE (Industrial Drafting, Labor Standards), AME (Lathe and Milling Machine operator, LNC programmer), and completed Ph.D. coursework in Computer Sciences. Most of his undergraduate degrees received Latin Honors and High Honor recognitions.
In 1971 john settled in America and incorporated several data programming software companies; "Animal Science Software Int'l" (Two Rivers, WI), "DairySoft" (Boulder, CO) and "Scientific Software" (Old San Juan, PR) that developed software for dairy farm operations. He also started International Operations for two American companies (LodgeNet Entertainment Inc. –and- Independent Technologies Co).
Scientific advocacy
In 1979 John wrote an important article addressed to the White House- expressing his concerns with the lack of leadership in energy policy, and insisting on an imminent oil crisis looming in the horizon. Business Week Magazine plagiarized his ideas and echoed his preoccupations when the Energy Editor changed her optimistic view on the issue, and prepared an alarming Special Report Issue on the Energy Crisis.
Publications
In 1991, John published a book titled:"US ENERGY POLICY: S.O.S 'SCARED OSTRICH SYNDROME' (A Dozen Years Closer To Doomsday)” warning the US Government on the risks ahead.
US Congress
Not able to bring the message from the “outside”, he ran in the United States House of Representatives elections, 2002 for US Congressman. With great personal and financial effort he managed to qualify for the election and was on the ballot in the 2002 General Election of Florida's 22nd congressional district against Republican incumbent E. Clay Shaw, Jr and Democrat Carol Roberts.
Award Winning Journalist Bob Norman publicly mentioned that he would vote for John Xuna, and if others were apposed to the war they should do the same.
The fact that he was atheist, opposed to the Iraq war, foreign born with a strong accent, and a pessimistic view on the outcome from our path towards a precipice, he had to run as NPI (No Party Affiliation) and –therefore- little chance to win. He received 2000 votes making it the most for any NPI candidate in Florida or District 22 History.
There are many other interesting and innovative technological he would propose during his candidacy such as construction of a tunnel under the Bering Strait.
Personal life and social concerns
After the elections, he dedicated himself to investigate ways of tapping thermal energy directly from the Earth’s mantel (magma). The research entitled Zeroing in Underground Energy Technologies (www.Zuet.com) received honorable attention and in 2006 invited to speak at Harvard University Geological Museum Lecture Hall and again at Massachusetts Institute of Technology during the 2008 MIT Energy Conference. Xuna, "Thermal energy cannot be cleaner. There are trillions of tons of Earth’s magma in which my research shows it is feasible to effectively extract vast amounts of clean thermal energy with almost 0 emissions.
Semi-retired from Engineering, since 2005 now John is a Certified Florida Teacher in Science, Physics and Mathematics in the Florida's Public Education System.
