John J. Popovic
Prof. John Jan Popovic studied Computer Sciences and Electronic Engineering. He has lived in Zagreb, Berlin, Belgrade, Zurich, Vienna, Malta and London. Since 1993 he lives in Rome, Italy. He is Professor consultant at University of Siena (Università degli Studi di Siena, Facoltà di Lettere e Filosofia, Scuola di Specializzazione in Storia dell'Arte)
He was involved in various interactive multimedia DVD projects and web application development projects. His company FirstMuse has long-lasting relationship with fine art galleries in Rome, Paris and New York and participates in coordination of international cultural events.
He has worked as a system programmer on various industrial and academic projects. Popovic developed software in Cobol, Modula-2, Pascal and Fortran in eighties. He has developed process control and measurement software for interfacing medical equipment (Hemogas analysis) in C++.
During 1991/92 he was employed as ICT technologies consultant in Germany, Switzerland and Italy. Popovic was member of the team that has developed a multimedia CD-ROM: Salvador Dali. He has acquired experience in different areas like: Fine Art, Journalism, Multimedia Publishing and Project Management.
In 1994 Popovic has founded European monthly multimedia magazine CD Digest. During 1996 and 1997 he has worked with the FONDAZIONE MEMMO on several prestigious interactive multimedia projects. He has produced interactive multimedia CD-ROM for the exhibition "THE PERGAMON ALTAIR/ THE TELEPHOS FRIESE" organised by Metropolitan Museum, N.Y., Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco and Staatliche Museen zu Berlin. The second Italian edition of the CD was published by Il Messaggero. During 1997/98 he was consultant of Netscape in Central Europe. In 1999/2000 he has worked as web project manager and marketing manager for Micanet - former Italian internet service provider.
In 2004 he has worked for Telecom Italia on HP/OpenView integration and perl/Unix development.
In 2004-2006 he has directed development of web applications for FARNESINA Art Collection Management ot the The Ministry of Foreign Affairs Collection of Contemporary Italian Art. In 2007 Prof. Popovic and Prof. Nicola Campigli, the president of Campigli Foundation were invited at Siena University by art historian, Prof. Enrico Crispolti to speak about advanced technology solutions applied to art archives and catalogs. The other conference participants were Fondazione Fontana and Fondazione Burri.
He has contributed as journalist and analyst to such publications as Il Messaggero, Digest International and Il Tempo. He is founder of various web sites and is responsible for the coordination of the multimedia development and the site administration. Since 1999 he is Honorary Member of THE ORDER ALEXANDER THE GREAT for the merits and the support of the Classical arts and ideals.
