African american men in computer science
Representation of African American men in computer science is low. In 2012, the Computing Research Association (CRA) Taulbee Survey reported there were "merely 56 Black/African American computer science tenure-track faculty members at PhD-granting institutions, which includes 13 (or 0.6%), 17 (or 1.4%), and 15 ( or 3.0%) Full, Associate, and Assistant Professors, respectively."
The first African American man, Clarence “Skip” Ellis, received a PhD in computer science in 1969.
Below is a list of the African American men who have earned a doctoral degree in computer science. These men work in industry, academia, government, and non-profit organizations around the world.
