John Fine (Race Driver)
John Fine (born December 31, 1987) is an American race driver and college student. Fine has been attending races at Elkhart Lake's Road America since childhood and currently races karts at Sugar River Raceway in Brodhead, WI. He clinched the second half season championship in senior box STOCK as of September 27, 2009 as well as the overall season championship as of November 10, 2009. Sugar River Raceway is a 0.42 mile track located south of Madison, WI. Some of Fine's greatest influences include Phil Hill, Augie Pabst, Burt Levy and others.
Fine currently attends Marquette University in Milwaukee, WI. He originally grew up in Neenah, Wisconsin. Fine's first experience with automotive restoration involved helping restore a 1964 Chevy Nova that belonged to his great grandfather. He also operates [www.downshift.us], a website devoted to sportscar, vintage and historic automobile restoration and racing. The site provides coverage of some of America's premier vintage racing events, along with driver InterViews, accounts and photos. Among other notable projects, the website is currently following and documenting the restoration of a collectible 1966 Jaguar E Type series I roadster. The group has also sold notable collector cars including a 1964 Chevy Impala SS, 1967 Jaguar E Type 4.2, 1964 Chevrolet Corvair Monza and 1984 Corvette. In addition to his other activities, Fine is also a contibutor to the Fox Valley Road & Track Classic, a sportscar event that takes place every spring in northeast WI to benefit the MS society, Wisconsin Chapter. The event has notably featured on track touring of Elkhart Lake's Road America, A Tour of Elkhart Lake's historic road course, listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places, as well as a shop tour of Zero to 60 Garage of Sherwood, WI. Money is raised annually to help fight MS. Fine and his family are also members of the Wisconsin Jaguar Club, devoted to the preservation and showing of classic, vintage and contemporary Jaguar automobiles.
