Jannis Georgiadis

Jannis Georgiadis (also known as Yannis Georgiadis) is a Greek violinist,conductor and pedagogue. He has perfomed extensively across Europe, as well as the US and Latin America. He is founder artistic director and conductor of Feminarte, the first all-female chamber orchestra in Greece and honorary Concertmaster with the Athens Symphony Orchestra. He plays a violin made in 1721 by Francesco Gobetti of Venice (b.1675 - d.1723).

Early years & studies

Jannis Georgiadis was born in Athens, Greece to a MusicAL family. His mother was also a violinist and he began playing the violin at the age of four. He graduated from the Athens Conservatory and after winning a scholarship from the Onassis Foundation [http://www.idyllion.gr/Programm2005-06-07-08.htm,] continued his studies at the University of Music and Performing Arts, Vienna- Austria (Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst Wien). There he studied with Professor Franz Samohyl, the representative of the Viennese school of violin-playing and earned the highest distinction. He subsequently earned his Conducting Diploma from the London College of Music & Media.

Career

Over the years Georgiadis has performed extensively as a recitalist and soloist in Austria, Germany, France, Switzerland, Italy, Russia, Romania, Czech Republic, the United States, Latin America and South Korea 1.2 3 4

As a soloist he has performed with the London Philharmonia, Berlin Symphony Orchestra, Budapest Philharmonic[(http://www.bpo.hu/engbftz.htm)] , the Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Vienna United Philharmonic, the Athens Camerata 5 , the Chamber Orchestra of Europe 6 , Kremlin Chamber Orchestra 7 , the Radio Orchestra of Bucarest, the Beer Sheba Israel Sinfonietta 8 and the Symphony Orchestra of Monterrey 9 10.

As conductor Georgiadis has recently performed with the Janacec Philharmonic Orchestra 11 in the Czech Republic and the Jeju Symphony Orchestra in South Korea.

Georgiadis has worked with contemporary classicul musicians such as Dimitris Sgouros, Jeremy Menuhin (son of Yehudi Menuhin), Gary Hofmann, Valery Oistrach, Alexander Brussilovsky, Dimitris Toufexis, Sergei Mussaelian and many others.

His discography with EMI and Warner includes works by Strauss, Brahms, Sarasate, Ravel, Saint-Saens, as well the Greek composers Papaioannou, Canas, Papadimitriou.

Current activities

He currently divides his time between teaching and performing and has recently been guest professor of the Summit music festival in New York 12 and Summer Academy in Geneva. Besides his concert schedule Georgiadis is actively involved in promoting music and creating performance opportunities for young talented musicians in his native country, Greece and abroad 13.

Future plans

Georgiadis plans to make future appearances in London, Paris, Berlin, Leipzig and Dresden, and is currently planning an extensive concert tour with his orchestra Feminarte.
